So I bought a small inverter to power the ONT and Router.

Connected it and had the router and ONT plugged into the Inverter and it worked perfectly when the power cut however my friend told me that it's not good to just leave the inverter on and connected permanently as it damages the battery

So am I supposed to disconnect it every time there's power so as to not damage it?

Nah, just leave it plugged it. Your friend is confused as how would you charge the inverter back up if you are disconnecting it

That's what I thought? I'd prefer to just leave it plugged in the whole time so it kicks in whenever the power goes off.

Not sure if that would damage the battery since it'll mostly be charging.

If it gets discharged and recharged a lot alla Stage 4 upwards not much you can do. The batteries will cycle quickly which will decrease their lifespan.

My simple-minded understanding of how it all works
