My icons all vanished on my work PC, Only the text at the bottom of the invisible icon remains...

Done that... No viruses since I'm very careful choosing stuff to download

Seems like I will have to format and reinstall my work PC(Which I did about 2 days ago )

That is strange. I would recommend what WKJ recommended - Safe Mode. Did you install anything that today that could've done this?

Download TweakUI (Powertoys for Windows XP). It's on the MS site. Use the TweakUI interface and restore the icons from one of the options.
