iOS 16 Features by Model

is the iPhone 8 too old to still use?
Oh I see what you are talking about, I know Vodacom are still selling iPhone 8, look as Dave said if it fulfils your needs then great but proceed with caution as the iPhone 8 may get the axe in a year or two in terms of the latest iOS update versions. My current belief is that iPhone 8 will hit EOL in the next year or 2 and be left on iOS 16 or iOS 17, BUT Apple will still give it security updates as they do with iPhone 6s, 7 and some older iPads.

I say rather look into an iPhone 11 128GB and up, that A13 Bionic is still trading blows with the latest chips from competitors and it’s in the current standard iPad model. I think you are quite safe with something on A13 and up.
If you want look at older than iPhone XS Max is a good option to, A12 is used in some recent stuff as well.

Otherwise look at iPhone SE 2022, that’s rocking the A15 chip like the iPhone 13s.

Good advice.

One of the reasons I'm upgrading and cascading is that the oldest phones in the family are 7's and with it not getting ios 16, it's time.

My major reason for upgrading was capacity, I was pushing into the high 50's on a 64GB phone. I was also thinking my 12 would need a new battery in the next year

I've been travelling since ios16 was released so I haven't updated yet. If you were in my shoes would you do it now or wait for the next dot release?

FWIW my wife and kids have updated theirs. The kids say wait (battery issues) but the missus says she hasn't had any noticeable issues.

Go for it. Very stable so far, and loads of improvements in day-to-day use of my 13 Pro.

I think it really depends on what model you are on, I think some older models with lower battery health have seen battery issues, honestly on 13 Pro Max it’s been great, still getting upwards of 9hrs SOT and I keep it on 5G Auto, also mix between WiFi and 5G due to load shedding and battery has been rock solid, I cannot complain.

With you travelling maybe wait a little until you have time to get used to iOS 16? I remember updating my XS max to iOS 13 Beta while travelling frequently between JHB and CPT, suddenly had issues with WiFi at the hotel I was staying in that week and the following week I was booked into the same hotel when I flew back into CPT, painful!

I have a 13 Pro and they have 13s so all less than a year old.

You should be good then, I think with some iPhone 14 models running on the same A15, iOS 16 has been well optimised for the chip, this bodes well for iPhone 13s.
My only concern is 2/3rds of the 13s already running 16 at home are experiencing battery issues.

Mine has actually improved since I installed it. I did have another look at a few settings, mostly to see what had changed, and noticed a bunch of apps had background refresh enabled, so disabled them - not sure if it’s what’s made the difference, but worth a look. All round, though, I think 16 seems to be better optimised for the A15 than 15 was.

yes it does but soon its going to be old
Check this out, Mac Shack have some deals on iPhone 11
