8.1 Changelog: http://www.iclarified.com/44749/here-is-the-full-ios-81-changelog

This caught my eye. People have been asking for this for years!

Why would you want this?

When ever I'm somewhere where there's only GPRS or Edge, doing anything on-line takes forever, which means the phone's radio are at full power for much longer, and the screen is on for much longer. The difference in battery life is substantial.

Likewise, when my network turned on 4G in my area, I saw a decent increase in battery life.

I can see this making sense if you don't use data routinely, and only in really special occasions (as in, like we did before smart phones), but if, like me, you have your mail client checking routinely, IM programs, social media and whatever else that poll their servers routinely, a more efficient connection mechanism can only improve matters.

I find it useful because I live in a cellular dead-zone. So when my phone sleeps and switches off wifi, it keeps trying to get 3G, finds that it is weak and drops to EDGE. This switching drains my battery, not to mention that it of course is transmitting strong most of the time on either mode. So I turn off 3G when home, it makes it more stable and I can then actually make some calls. Sometimes I just turn off data completely.

EDGE may be absurdly slow, but whatsapp still works just fine on it.

Right, that makes sense.

Haven't updated yet. Still on 8.02, Settings app keeps crashing, yesterday my phone restarted for the first time by itself.

Just updated to 8.1 now; initially DL failed & tried 2nd time & entire process ran smooth.

Pity lousy MTN not seeing the to choose for Cell Data.

Hope so, going to download it now....

And? Any improvement for you?

A number of apps were crashing for me on my Air and Waze was only displaying half screen and laggy as hell on 8.0.2. It's working superbly on 8.1 so I'm assuming some significant under the skin bug fixes in 8.1...

The keyboard seems to be less laggy, I did experience a safari freeze once. Had to close the app, to restore it.
I think it's better, but the iPad 3 is definitely showing it's age. I think iOS8 will be the last update on the iPad 3.
Time to start saving for an iPad Air 2 or maybe iPad Air 3 next year.

Definitely noticing an improvement in scrolling on the iPhone 6 and iPad Mini Retina. Haven't tested it on any of the A5 devices because I am keeping them on iOS 7 for the time being.

Anyone know how this release performs on the older devices?
