iOS 9 GM released

Funnily enough the only time I've had a problem was a clean install of 9.1 to my Air 2, it was working fine but with horrible battery drain. I've now restored back to 9.0GM and restored my 9.0 backup and it's working perfectly again.

To make it even more confusing 9.1 is giving tremendous battery life on my iPhone 5s (and that was done OTA update), it's almost doubled battery life from 8.4.1.

I still have my iPhone 6 on 9.0GM as I pulled it off the beta track after the battery issues on the Air. I might try it again, but I'm considering selling the 6 so might just leave it on 9.0, not every buyer wants beta firmware.

Will I loose the whatsapp sharing extension by upgrading to 9? Took whatsapp forever to add in for 8 so I'm hoping not the case..

So gents...today is D-Day. Any idea what time locally the OTA will be available?

Also would be interesting to see how big & how much install space needed; iOS 8.0 vs iOS 9.0 taking into account the streamlining they were talking about.

7pm tonight it should be available. Be prepared for server overloads tho :(

South Africa will not be seeing any of the good Siri features as well as News, Wallet and Transit. It is just an improved iOS 8 this side of the world with a redundant search screen to the left of the home screen.

Ah – thanks! Figured that Wallet and Transit won't be much use here – but missed that the News App wouldn't be international (at least, not initially??). Was looking forward to seeing what they did with it, and fortunately stumbled across your post, before spending too much time looking for it! :)

Apple will be launching News in other areas with 9.1 but you can activate it now by Region to the US. Downside is you will be stuck with imperial measurements in apps like Maps.

^ trusty iPhone 5 runs iOS 9 excellent. No slow down or lag anywhere. Even more trusty iPad 3 as about the same performance on iOS 9 as it was on iOS 8 which is to say mostly smooth with a bit of slowdown here it there; by no means nothing to kick up a scream.

My mini 2 feels very sluggish on 9. But prior to updating I was running 8.4, jailbroken with Speed intensifier. You want to see fast and response, try Speed intensifier.

How is battery life? Apple claims a extra hour of battery life. Has anybody tried the power saving mode?

I used it yesterday when phone was on 33% & I had to go out.

Seems like it does make a difference to squeeze out a bit more extra juice when you need to extend battery life that bit more.

It's made quite a difference on the old 5s I'm using while I was for next week, it used to need charging by 5pm but now goes on the charger at 11pm without needing a charge through the day.

Five devices later I get zapped by the dreaded Slide to Upgrade bug last night while upgrading my kid's iPad 3. :o
