Hi pp

Please may someone help me understand this... I have a user connected to our domain but every so often his laptop disconnects from the network... however it does not tell him that he is disconnected and he has to click on repair everytime in order for it to connect him back on... Now this seems to happen even after i deleted his account etc... and re added it... this also happens when you assign a static IP.... i just dont understand what would cause this to happen....

Hes running XP pro SP2 HP 6730b and i have never seen this happen before im at a loss for words... I even uninstalled his network drivers and installed them again...

Please any help would be greatful.

Thanks :)

Hi

Have you checked the usual suspects

Cable, Switch, power save settings on the Laptop

Cheers

Yeh I dont think its an IP addy conflict I checked that and the message would have popped up saying that there is a conflict... and I would have had someone asking me about this problem...

Its more than likely the network card that's faulty

Have you tried it on another LAN to see if it still looses the connection?

If it still looses the connection if the Laptop is still under warrentee get them to replace the network card it should sort out the problems.

If its out of warrentee get a PCMCIA network card and see if that sorts it out

Cheers

Yeh i also have a slight suspicion that its the network card but would it not say disconnected.... as the connection says its connected.... the guy just cant send emails or connect to the network printers etc.... and i have to repair this bloody thing every 10min.... oh and it wont repair the connection if the IP is dynamically assigned it will only repair if its on a static address...

gogo ping -t the domain controller and see if the connection dies

I can ping everything without a single timeout or TTL..... I just dont understand this.... its like ALL the software is is disconnecting but the network stays connected and windows isnt seeing a problem at all :confused:

could also be the network switch or the cable.

otherwise start investigating virii.

driver issue most likely..
faulty card close second,

Firewall could also cause it, I'm also leaning towards a faulty NIC.

Switch off the modem/router then restart your pc.Have you installed any new software before the trouble started. My pc did exactly the same thing when i installed virtual pc,then i uninstalled it....and then the problem disappeared
