IP Change?

Hi!

Just wondering about the new IPs?

My 8ta IP has always been on the 41.* range. Recently, I noticed that some Geolocation-based sites were being strange, and I noticed my IP has changed to 197.* which has caused some havoc in online games that rely on Geolocation ^_^

Eg:

Notice City / Country / Region. I even had a site claimed that I live in Mauritius. These are sites and games that are normally extremely accurate, and use user-based location for anti-fraud methods.

Any reason for the IP change... ?

I suspect it's to do with the Telkom Mobile migration, as several sites claim:

ISP: African Network Information Center (Located in: Ebene, , MAURITIUS)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AfriNIC <--- Seems its picking them up as my ISP... Weird...

New routers, trying to implement another tactics (proxies, spying methods and so...), not destroying current setup.

If you have problem with some IP range, try disconnect/reconnect till you get the right one.

BTW, both 41 and 197 ranges re administered by the same AFRINIC.

Reconnected - Back to lovely 41.* - Thanks :D

Do they really need both IP ranges? Seems a bit excessive for our country...

AfriNIC holds the pool of unallocated IP addresses for the African continent. Before the IPs are allocated they will all show up as belonging to them. AfriNIC only allocated that block to Telkom quite recently (Feb 2013) so its probably just an issue with a Geolocation database that is out of date.

Telkom does not have the whole of 41.0.0.0/8 and 197.0.0.0/8. Those blocks are split up into chunks and shared between all the ISPs and networks in Africa.

That said - South Africa accounts for 44% of the IPs in use in Africa which is significantly more than one whole /8 subnet.
