IP Connect problem causes ADSL downtime

Yep, I had problems and is why I have an alternate account ... for once it was AfriHost/Seacom to the rescue :D

Pretoria East (Willows exchange) with TelkomInternet, slow since last night. SA sites seem OK.

So i have a question. This problem should only have an effect on MetroEthernet or did i read wrong. So why the hell does it have an effect on me when i am on a non MetroEthernet exchange. I can not get 10mb because i am not on MetroEthernet.

Anyone care to explain?

I'm Cape Town based.

Cannot connect to Openweb account. Can connect via SAOL though. Not sure who is using what upstream... SAOL seems fine.

Openweb Uncapped Gold is my primary account, SAOL gives me a GB free with line rental (good deal, BTW). Guess I'll have to check again tomorrow.

Keoma replied to my email within a few hours- at least that's something in Openwebs favour- other ISPs would have taken a week or so to get back to me.

The IPC from the Telkom ADSL infrastructure to the ISP uses MetroEthernet.

This crap has been going on since Sunday.

Well that just sux :D

And for the record it started on the 8th already, the thing that P's me off is that when you phone and ask what is wrong with your line they spin you some BS, why not just let us know what is happening.

******* had me on the line for nearly a hour.

Edit = ******** is a donkey hole

I'm in Durbanville, Cape Town on a 10meg line with WA. Have been having spotty download speeds for the last week.

No connection at all last night from home. No international or local. I haven't checked it this morning, but my router sync light was on.

Location: Bellville
ISP: Sainet

Yeah I was down last night too, switched to an axxess account and things went fine after that. Still haven't logged back into my main account (openweb) to see if things are back on track.

Loc: Queenstown, Eastern Cape
ISP: Openweb

Last night Astraweb crawled and came to a standstill at times.
This morning update for XP from MS is crawling...
MWEB uncapped - Rustenburg.

ISP: SAINET
AREA: GILLITTS, DURBAN

From yesterday afternoon I was getting authentication errors, now I am able to connect by can't do anything with the connection, its not just slow, its dead.

ISP: Openweb (Gold uncapped)
Location: Kempton Park on the East Rand

Ditto, though location is Cape Town. No local either...

When I tried this morning, I could connect (auth seemed OK) though there was no action at all on the connection :(

Maybe we should get the BSA (other article) to focus on Telkom, they're ruining the economy with their bad service more than piracy.
