iPad 2 disadvantages

Whether I read on 10 review sites, chat to 10 owners, use one or buy one - there are facts that don't change.

I can rely on opinions with certain things and others are subjective - but for things like USB - does it make a difference if I read 'lacks USB' or notice it myself? I'm not quite understanding what you're saying to be quite honest?

Again, it's R200.00pm ...

I'd love a Porsche, but drive a Volvo.
do you really need it now? What harm is there in waiting for a special for Android or newer options.

Fyi I skipped iPad 1 and only bought iPad 2, similarly skipped galaxy tab 7, and waited for tab 10.1

roi - I don't wish to continue this argument. I asked about the three flaws and to what I'd expect - I received my answer from a few people and know roughly what to expect. Little did I realize using 'flaw' and 'Apple' in one sentence is unwritten rule in the subsection - but there's no need to continue.

PS Photographs that I've taken is not pirating and I'm within my right to give them to whom I wish.

Do you need to buy most apps?
And do Apple block games etc from South Africa?

Such a retarded device - but going to be the only iPad user that dislikes it and longs for a Samsung instead
Retard device because the apps cost money and we don't have an app store locally. Everyone solved this by recommending creating a US account if you don't want to pirate, Cydia and installous if pirating won't keep you up at night.

It seems the first thing one must do when they open their iPad is hack and crack to open more functionality, Then, they need to hop onto Google and get a fake address/account - to open more functionality.
You then stated that you are not comfortable with the idea of jailbreaking it or creating a fake account, good for you for doing the right thing. IMO you will then waste your money by getting one. I may be one of the defending apple here but I can honestly say their devices suck if not unlocked.

They wouldn't exist - so I salute S.Jobs for persuading (brain washing?) You into thinking its great.
The device can be great, if used the way it wan't design to be used.

I have now two been through the whole thread and do apologize for calling you a trol as you didn't shoot down the advice given as bad as I thought you did. From your posts it appears that you already have an opinion regarding what the device will be like and that is going to kill the device. Got my iPhone without knowing anything about the device purely because it would look cool on top of my wallet on a table somewhere, ended up falling in love with the device. Day to day usage changes opinions and Apple devices have far more pros than cons. Volvos's suck and will never be a Porsche, but as many cons as your car might have I can think of quite a few, if not more, pro's.

You have heard all of the cons as the droid fanboys love pointing them out. Thing is, had I read a thread like this I would never have gotten an iPhone and would never loved it the way I do now. You don't have a choice with your iPad as you'll have to settle for second best(Sucks to be in that position). I guarantee you you'll enjoy the device if you make use of all the fixes posted here and don't try and find reasons to hate it more.

Opened a thread to give you a few reasons not to cancel your order : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/375144-iPad-2-advantages?p=7076036#post7076036

No problem... Good luck with whatever choice you make, either way jailbreaking or rooting should solve any of the concerns you have.

roi - I've actually wanted a tablet pretty much since they came out.

Without going into detail, I've spent close on R250,000.00 since April that I wish to reclaim slowly. Due to this, I've actually put a brake on everything ... but I still want a tablet. This special gives me access to a tablet and although only R200.00pm than the Samsung, it's R200.00 I'd rather not spend.

The iPad - in all honestly - will more than likely do what I want. I'm not a power user like most of you and I'd guess that even the apps in the SA store are good enough for me (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Bloomberg, News24 etc). I've read and understood the flash issue - but I was interested in how much it impacts and what Steve Jobs meant about H.264 - as well as a few other things about Flash.

I was interested in just limited the app store was, if I chose to use an SA address.

Using iTunes again, is an annoyance and truth be told, I'm not a fan. I was just keen to hear about from others. I have other questions about using multiple devices with it - but I'll rather Google

Dolby, just get the damn thing. In all likelihood you'll love it. If not, dump it on gumtree. They sell fast.

Oh, and get an US account. Otherwise you can just as well get a kindle... :-)

iTunes with ios5 is less of a must, only really needed when you have problems that require you to restore the device; iCloud is centered on taking over the need to sync to a local computer - frankly speaking I still prefer iTunes, as it serves as my media hub, wired in with wireless speakers and AirPlay software to my TVs.

There are many apps which faciltate working with other devices, you have to be specific if you want suggestions. In general I have not found a situation where the iPad does not have a solution.

Understandably you nervous about spending money, but honestly the device would not be selling as well as it is if it wasn't worth it.

Btw Android also covers a wide scope of connectivity options akin to the iPad, my biggest gripe about the android as I've stated before is on the os design specifically in regards to the UI (screen stutter) - this is less evident with the newer Samsung devices as they've done some custom UI mods which one could argue makes it no longer real android.

Many people with the newer and more powerful devices will argue against this point, but in reality the android experience varies widely (it's very dependent on the manufacturer, price / hardware, custom mods, ...)

The other main pain in arse thing is that the upgrade roadmap is controlled by the manufacturer and not google ie the manufacturer has to spend the time / effort / cost to adapt their mods to the new google android release, something which they are in most cases less willing to do for the old devices as they are generally focused on their new products (which is where they make money, ie no profit in upgrading old devices)

Android 4.0 is pitched to fix this (well that's their intention anyway), but at this stage its really too early to tell. Apple on the other hand typically allow much longer upgrade paths, for example the iPhone 3GS has gone through at least 15 revisions (a number of which were major ones).

Choice is still yours... Sometimes it's better to make an informed one.

let us know who it goes.
PS get one of those H8ta 10gb specials...

Download hog ;) I found for me 2gb was more than sufficient.. At home my business WiMAX link does most of the heavy lifting... This is jokes aside one of the areas that I'd suggest jailbreaking the iPad, ie to share your internal sim via wifi - otherwise you are going to find it difficult to consume your data bundle.

Thing is the iPad has potential - but it's all purposely locked down.

I've heard now that Steve gone, they could be a little more lenient on the next iPad and allow to be more open from the start.

Appstore isnt locked down because of apple, you have to thank our GOV for that....

As for cracking hacking, i dont think thats needed, if you're not a cheap skate and dont mind paying the developers a couple dollars for there apps i dont see a need to do that, i can browse my shares on my Media pc..

If you need more storage you can get a few options, seagate satilite drive, kinstone wi-drive, there are a couple of products out there that allow you to stream movies directly to your ipad...

iPad 2 must have the personal hotspot feature? Will definately be sharing with my laptop for downloading, more interested in the 10GB for my daily youTube fix and some music streaming away from home(Groveshark ftw).

ITunes is the bomb... Sorry but if you find it hard to manage your library.... you're doing it wrong.

I might be doing it wrong in your view, but that is it, its your personal view, not mine. I dont listen to my music as one hit wonders with Genius created playlists. I listen to Albums as a whole and for that using my directory structure of already managed albums works great.

For people that want to add Music without iTunes you can look at CopyTransManager (iOS5 Not supported yet)

Unfortunately that's "one more thing" that Apple hasn't delivered.. There is countless times where I have my iPad and my laptop and I'd loved to share my iPads sim but can't... That's the one main reason I can't wait for the next JB, also logged with Apple as a feature request. Therein lies a perfect example of where the Android world is just a little better...

I've got he 10GB already ;)

Any good?been with CellC and you gan go from 5mb/s to nada in two blocks, also not very big fans of clouds in my area, knocks my speeds quite a bit

That is sooooo stupid, ah well, been using a thethered jb on my iP4 since iOS 5 gm so I guess my iPad is going down the same route

I agree... There are times like this where Apple's design decisions make absolutely no sense, hence my Android comment. Ah well at least in time we can fall back on JB for this. Really hoping they release an untethered one soon.
