iPad 2 disadvantages

The kindle fire is a content driven platform, which Amazon's strategy is. So the apps will be in the cloud and only the content is send to the kindle fire. So it needs minimal power and memory therefore it is cheaper. The iPad is app driven, which is a strategy that differs from Amazon, so it needs more power and therefore more expensive.

The strategies of Apple and Amazon drives the capability and the cost of each tablet. So, yes. The iPad is expensive, but there is a reason behind it as explained. And yes. You pay a premium for the brand.

It is interesting which strategy will be more beneficial in the long run. We are only now entering the tablet maturity phase and according to IT specialists, the tablet will differ from what we see now in the next 3 years

I still believe the iPad 2 is too expensive. I hope the Amazon Kindle takes over the market.
The kindle is not really an equivalent for an IPad or other tablets in both hardware and software, Basically is a very scaled down unit to meet a particular price point which some even suggest is being subsidized by Amazon on the basis that each kindle purchaser will buy x amount of their margined media products.

As for whether the kindle is a threat to apple; yes! But only in the very price sensitive space, and no in the feature space.

Btw I actually think the kindle android device is more of a threat to google android as it represents another independent branch of android, exactly contrary to what google is trying achieve with icecream sandwich/4.0 consolidation

Dolby, the Tab 10.1 will also don't be for you, because it also can't connect to USB devices directly. All tablets currently has their pros and cons, but I am sure the iPad will be more than what you need.

FNB said 10 days ... so guessing early November 2011.
Well to pass the time until then I'd suggest you start setting up your account(s) or at least exploring the various options we provided... Yes you can have more than one linked to the same device & ITunes, although app upgrades are easier when you don't have to login multiple times for updates.

Just ask if you need any help.

Agreed. More than one account is a pain.

You can have up to 5 computers authorized per account so you open 1 US account and purchase apps on that account. You set up a backup profile specific to each iDevice syncing with that computer. You can update apps on your iPad by downloading them direct through the AppStore or you can download them to iTunes installed on your desktop and sync the apps to your iPad, wirelessly if on iOS5.

Personally I prefer iOS4.3.3 for now as I can jailbreak it and iOS5 is not as stable as has become customary with Apple. Wireless sync is a bit buggy and there issues with battery drain on iOS5 amongst other things (there is a thread on MacRumors entitled "batterygate").

I've taken the plunge and sms'ed FNB. I suspect I'll rue some of the issues in this thread, especially the lack of USB, but am looking forward to i.e. the screen quality, the app store...

I'm not at home now to sit in front of my iTunes - but this was one query I had :

My iTunes is populated with 140GB of music for my iPod - and when I plug it in, it syncs. But what happens now with the 16GB iPad? When I get it home and plug it in - what happens? Will it not try sync 140GB music to my iPad now as well?

Create a playlist with your favourites and tell it to only sync that to the iPad. Cause it wont sync the 140GB, i'm sure thats not news.
You can choose what to sync: Everything or playlist xy & z

How does iTunes handle a situation where you want to sync more than the device's capacity worth of data? Just an error message, or would it sync until the capacity has been reached?

I dont remember, i know i've done it before... but for some reason i remember it syncing and giving no message. Then on the iPod some albums where randomly missing

AFAIK it will sync until capacity is reached.

Dumb question : but I see I've registered a SA account with my iPod, so guessing easy enough to change.

My question is - should I see a download button? ;)
Or does it appear when the iPad is connected?

EDIT : Angry Birds and the Steve Jobs Biography not on SA apps store?

I think you will have to register another account. The green button that shows either the price or the word free will be your download button.

Yes no angry birds on SA store.

When I ordered my iPad i downloaded all my apps onto my pc before I even got it, saved the waiting for it to download while I was trying to play on It! Haha
