iPad 2 vs the rest

Last time I went to the USA, I ended up on an ancient Air France Jumbo from Paris to San Francisco without an entertainment system (the plane was too old) - I almost went insane - not only will I not fly Air France again, but I will also make sure that I have a tablet with entertainment with me.

lol. You chose Air France!?! Ok, well I have only flown Emirates, Qatar and Virgin Atlantic depending on where I am going. So I cannot comment on Air France but I would never fly with them because of that incident that happened a few years back where the plane disintegrated in mid air.

Using an adapter you can easily back up photos from an SD card onto the iPad 1 or 2. Its also a great way to quickly show off your photos. You cant however use the SD card as additional storage.

And if it's a dSLR with CF - with a Xoom you can plug in a CF reader.

I admit that the Xoom's software is not finished, but as it stands it can do more than an iPad2, and this gap will only widen as the software is finalised.

I don't know if you can blame them for that, that was a new Airbus of a model that is used by many airlines - the trip back from the USA was on a similar plane to the Air France crash, but was on Delta.

I agree that Emirates is great, I recently had some great flights with them - the Boeing 777`s on that trip even had a mains power socket, and some had USB charging ports.

With the iPad camera connection kit you can either plug the camera in directly or use one of the myriad of compatible CF readers available.

Is that restricted to cameras, or does it offer general USB Hosting, such as a USB keyboard?

Not that I'm interested in an I pad, iTunes kills it stone dead for me.

Actually you can, but it's a bit of a kluge. :)

As for photos I have a eye-fi card that streams images onto my iPad as I'm taking them. :)

So then if I dont have the eye-fi card (which is quite cool btw) I should be able to copy pics onto my laptop first - then 'wi-fi' it onto the iPad?

Apparently so - http://www.iphonehacks.com/2010/04/...supports-usb-keyboard-and-audio-headsets.html - though personally I'd opt for one of apple's bluetooth keyboards.

There are apps available, such as goodreader, that will let you transfer all sorts of content via wifi including photos and video.

EDIT - you can also use Shuttersnitch to transfer photos directly to your ipad via FTP.

I understand that if you jailbreak your iPad you can get the app Frash - which solves the "no flash supported" limitation on the iPad. Anyone tried this???

I bought the entry level one over the weekend. I use it for remote desktop coz im not always in my office. So far its been a pleasure

Got mine as a birthday present from the missus and I must say it is a pleasure to use. I do dislike iTunes and the restriction on sharing files between applications etc but for the most part, its great. What a well built piece of kit. I'd still never give up my android phone for an iPhone, but this supplements it just well. Apple and Android have their pros and cons. Right now, honeycomb is a beta. I waited for it, but it disappointed badly.

The iPad 2 is a winner, you can't hate on such a refined user experience. In an ideal world we could get that AND the functionality of say honeycomb, but for now there isn't much competition. Stability and silky smoothness trumps laggy crashy functionality imho.

This debate will go one forever..

Look at it this way :

Apple brought out the iPad.. it started a massive technology revolution - now most major manufacturers are busy bringing out Tablets "iPad killers".. Why dont they just accept the fact they were too slow and lost..

Lets not forget the App Store, that being said iPad wins hands down imho

Used Xoom and did not have much impression with it. The price is even higher or on par with iPad 2. iPad 2 all the way.

However I do want iPad 2 to support Flash or all sites start supporting HTML 5 :)

Agreed, pity about the flash, but I understand you could jailbreak it - and use the "Frash" app from the Cydia store - which is supposed to give you flash support. havent tried it myself as I dont have an iPad...yet (hopefully this weekend)

So what you saying is something like everyone should be driving around with Fords and not buy any other cars? I mean they where the 1st mass production ones out there?

Nope not saying that at all - but can you compare a FORD and a Ferrari? You cant.. so likewise, no point in comparing iPad 2 to other tablets..

Motorola Xoom FTW. I read somewhere it beat the iPad 2 and playbook (LOL) in a couple of speed tests. I'd get an iPad 2 if i had the chance. Damn Apple and their marketing!

+1, although I am tending towards getting the Galaxy 10.1
