So as a South African "technical" site we get to rename products as we see fit. wow, that is astonishing.

Well, we call Apple "Apple" instead of "Apple Inc", and for some reason we decided that a Mac was not to be named as a "PC" even though it is?

More importantly, why has the media (and yourself) decided to rename Steven to "Steve"? I don't see you protesting the media renaming Steven?

Three is still low enough. Hell, they went up to iPhone 4s, three suddenly not good enough for them?

I was just commenting on how people go off at the media for not having all the correct facts; even members on this site. Now the product isn't being called by its correct name here. "What is good for the goose is good for the gander"

Honestly I don't care I will just have to take each and every article with a pinch of salt from now on. Not to mention double check the name of each product that gets reviewed/talked about.

MyBB is the party who is, like other publications, trying to address an issue here. The very fact that they went through the trouble of writing this article is an indication of myBB's appreciation of good naming conventions. You obviously have no reason to take "every article with a pinch of salt from now on".

Apple, it seems, created the confusion with this line of naming. The very fact that we are discussing this topic confirms this. If you want to blame someone, blame Apple, not myBB.

What confusion? It's the New iPad, big deal. I don't understand the fret. You're underestimating your readers if you think they're going to get confused when you talk about the New iPad.

There is not that much confusion at the moment - many people are simply anticipating the confusion when the new new iPad gets released..

Sheesh guys, fi MyBB realeases a poll it doesn't mean they want to change things, polls are simply for interests sake. Just the fact that "The New iPad" was hardly chosen proves that it's a relevant topic. Surely they (and I truly hope so) will still refer to it by the official name.

And in my opinion, I think iPad "third generation" could work nicely. It works for Kindle. They also have basically the same functionality each generation, with slight improvements to each. And everyone knows which Kindle is the NEW Kindle. But when you need to be specific, just throw the generation in!

If you have a friend with a really dumb name, would you call him that just because it's his given name? No, you'd give him a nickname.

The iPad 3 still looks like the iPad 2 hence why it's not called the iPad 3 officially. If Apple called it the iPad 3 then they would be blasted for not releasing a new design etc.

I don't think so. If this was the case, it should have had "iPad 2" in it's name. So something like iPad 2s would have worked.

I think Apple decided to stop naming individual models. I don't understand the full reason why this is beneficial though, as this leaves room for confusion.

BMW sell a 3 series and have done for years... I dont expect an F30 318i when I see a reference to a 1992 318i... So just use the year model :-P

The back of my 2011 iPad says iPad on it. Not iPad 2.

But the Macbooks don't have a model number and nobody is complaining about that?
