I've had my iPad 3g 64GB now for a week. Everything is working just fine, but unlike the iPhone I noticed that the iPad just chows bandwidth.

I have 2 mail accounts setup and just using them for the 8 hour window I am at work with 3g on consumes about 10-15mb. Yesterday a served a bit to show some folks how the device works - costed me another 50mb. I am currently on a 300mb package with Vodacom.

I think it is better to just a 1gb or higher package.

It really shouldn't be worse than the iPhone. Mine isn't.

The email should be exactly the same usage if you use the same sync settings that you have on your phone.

There is an issue with the browser reloading pages just about every time you switch tabs though.

YouTube would consume more bandwidth because it is downloading video at a higher bitrate.

Hydrofire, I have my iPhone set to 30 minute fetch intervals and my iPad the same. Only thing I noticed is that the iPad downloads the whole message excluding the attachments, whereas the iPhone downloads only first 2 lines. So even if you do not open a mail message on the iPad it is all there excl attachment. I think this is what is causing the problem.

... and this is somehow news to you??

No doubt you'll get plenty of suggested tweaks to try to stop you, but the real bandwidth hog is you. That's why they wanted you to buy it. Seriously, if you really don't want to subsidise the mobile networks, use WiFi, whenever and wherever you can. Better still, get a WiFi-only iPad, and you won't even be tempted ;)

Dude, something is wrong there - I have had my iPad 4 months now, and I am stumped how little bandwidth I use. I have been using a 1.2GB bundle on it (which expires after 60 days). Usually I check how much is left when there is 2 weeks to go. I am always pleasantly horrified, when I see that my 1.2GB has dwindled to only 700 or 800 MB with 6 weeks of use and only two weeks to go. I then try and get my money's worth, and download magazines etc to the iPad to try and use my bandwidth before the month ends

Bandwidth is bandwidth - if you downwload big apps, or music/videos, then sure it will use up a lot - just as it would with any device. I just use my iPad for web browsing, email, running a few apps etc and I am always stumped how little I am using
