iPads are hot...

I am looking at working the street corner to make extra moola to buy an iPad!

Pity all the cell phone service(!) providers either do not or cannot or dont know how to provide the iPad on contracts...
Isnt Apple jsut shooting themselves in the foot by not allowing the iPads to be sold on Contract.:confused::confused:

There is a MASSIVE market out there of people that wants to own an iPad but dont have the immediate cash resources to buy one.....IMHO

I saw in this week's Game pamphlet that they're also now an Authorised Apple Reseller. They advertise terms on everything else in the pamphlet, except iPads. lol

Apple don't really care about getting more market, IMO.

That have millions upon millions of people that'll be every new product and update. They lock entire cellphone operators out purposely - which should show you they're not too concerned.

The reasons that most people buy other tabs over iPads are purely the chosen restrictions and not the technical ability. The amount of times I've heard 'I'd buy it if it did Flash and they an MicroSD card - but for now I'll skip it' is unreal

* No disrespect to Apple folk - I just believe they can get a massive market with a few tweaks that'll propel them so far in #1 spot, that no one will ever catch them. They chose not to, though

Nope, I think you're just hearing yourself the whole time, seeing as you've brought it up about 20 times in the last week.
Get over it. Move on with your life.

Millions upon millions of people use iPads everyday. Flash is old and outdated, and there are way better technologies out there.
The thing is that people are lazy when it comes to making websites. They don't want to learn these new technologies and languages, so they just stick to Flash. Take your favourite example Nandos. Poor development, as they didn't make a non flash based site, for the millions of non flash devices out there. Yes, you can't play most facebook games on your iPad, but that is fine, just wait for the App to be released, and there you go.
So are things like SD Cards. In the States, where you can get onto WiFi almost anywhere, you just use cloud based storage.
Why do I want to use a SD Card to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iPad. I just let it sync to all my devices via iCloud. As if you're ever really gonna need more than 32GB on your device.

Um.

What did I say that upset you?

I said Apple is not interested in bending the rules for his decisions. Millions don't care .. and millions do. Apple still won't bend.

I don't get why you're upset

I am not upset. It's just you keep going on and on and on and on and on about the same things.
Don't you ever get bored?
They won't change the product, as it does what is needed of it.
Also, sometimes in IT, you have to forcefully remove legacy things from your products so that people will realize how bad they actually are. Imagine if we still sat with IDE Hard Drives? I'm sure there were millions who were upset at the Motherboard manufacturers for removing IDE Ports from the new motherboards, yet you didn't see people nag on about it forever, cause they realized that the manufacturers were doing it because it was to get rid of an inferior product.

That is what Apple is trying to do regarding Flash. Why include it in the system if it is going to just make browsing slower and eat up all your resources and drain your battery?

Why do you need an SD Card when you can use things like DropBox and iCloud?
Take a photo with your iPhone, and it'll show up on your iPad automatically, thanks to iCloud. No need to remove and SD Card, or anything like that. The thing is, they are designing these products for the 1st world countries. Not for a 3rd world country like we are in. Yes, in SA no everyone is lucky enough to have uncapped ADSL, but in the majority of 1st world countries, they don't even know what cap is. That's why we're still stuck on physical storage to be used for transferring data. There are way better ways out there to do it, and they are trying to lead the way, and I respect them for the steps they are taking, as it is for the better in the long run.

OP asked why don't they do contracts, as they'd sell more.

I said they won't change as they don't care about attracting more market. I brought up the example about their limitations. They chose those limitations and won't change them and will rather forfeit the millions more sales. We're saying the same thing ... they.won't.change

Why do they need to change? It's as if you can't understand what I'm trying to tell you.....
there.is.a.reason.they.won't.change

They are giving you a stable product which doesn't crash or hang that you need to remove the battery.
They are moving things into the future and trying to advance things a bit.

I doubt you'll even realize exactly what I'm speaking about. So I'll rather just leave it at that before you label me an Apple troll or something. Just think you're completely missing the point behind their strategy.

Oh don't worry ... you were labelled from your first post

It was the 'get over it! ... the blaming others ... the 'why do you want it?' ... the 'who needs more?' that gave you away

Get over it. Move on with your life

See, I was right, you don't see the what I'm trying to say. All you can see are people who are trying to say what they doing has its merits and advantages, you take that as trolling.

Each one of those points are valid. Especially the 1st one ;-) and if you need more than 32GB on your device, spend a bit more and get the 64GB version. See, there's a solution for everything, except your unwillingness to actually listen and sit and think about what people have been telling you. I just feel that you had already made up your mind about all these matters before you've even had the product in your hand and used it as it is meant to be used.

It's 2011, embrace the change.

You talk about Apple not wanting to make a change to get all the things you want.
Why not make the change in your ways, to see that what they are doing is actually better for you.

You said you watched iGenius. Did you miss the parts where they spoke about how their products take technology and make it easy for everyone to use? That's why you won't find MicroSD cards, cause it is a hassle and a waste of time compared to DropBox and iCloud.

Just do everyone a favour, and actually read the points that are being brought to your attention.
We're all just trying to help you to realize that you're not seeing the full picture.
Maybe you'll actually get it once you have received your iPad.
If not, oh well, we all tried.

You're not understanding me either.

There are plenty of people out there - old, young, rich, poor, technical, non-technical in US, India, South Africa, New Zealand and other places around the world. 'i' products don't suit them all and I was merely pointing out that Apple won't change to cater for everyone - there's no even an option. With Apple, FIFO ...

They dictate the market and tell you what you will or won't do - they won't change. They don't have to (<<<<<< this is where we agree!)

PS Will iCloud assist with my 8GB of photo's taken on my Canon?
PPS I have my iPad in front of me ... neat little device!

According to VDC 3G shop in tigervalley they'll have iPad contracts soon. He said before or in time for the christmas rush.

@timmie23 : As a non tech user of all things Apple, I completely understand the stance that Apple is taking against old technology.
(Flash and SD memory cards) With the arrival of iOS5 all now makes sense.
All I can say is roll on Apple, the others are getting lost following in the dust you kick up.

I completely understand the stance that Apple is taking against old technology

... calling Flash and SD(mini) 'old' technology? You do realise that Flash is still around 70& on the video on the internet and SD/mini SD card is still card used in 90% of electronics as a storage mechanism?

... what do you feel about the decade old USB 2.0 system DVD drives Apple use? Blu Ray was even out 5 years back ....

I'd say it's more selective use of technology

There are not enough USB 3.0 products out there yet for me to say that it is needed. I work for a University as an IT Consultant, and I handle about 5 new models of notebooks and pcs each month. Majority still have only USB 2.0. Go into any shop, have a look at the flash drives and externals. Major majority will still be 2.0.

As with bluray. For me, it is not needed on mac as standard. How much does a bluray disc even cost? I don't even want to know. Seeing that a verbatim double layer 8.5GB disc is still R15 - R20. With the Internet as it is, bluray is not gonna really make an impact in the pc/notebook market as I think most people expect. It's just cheaper to sell your software online. Especially since OSX Lion has the MacApp Store preloaded. Geez, even Lion was a download only. $29 for an OS. Now imagine they packaged it and put it on Bluray?

I see the points you are trying to make, but I think you are just a bit misinformed about why and why not of their decisions. Would you even use bluray on your MacBook? Honestly? Cause it will only be a reader anyways. Yet to see a notebook with a bluray writer as standard.

But this topic has gotten way off topic. I apologize for that. Didn't mean to hijack it.

So wait - let me get this straight - you agree with Apple on every single standard that they've either chosen to follow or discard?

If you established an IT company now making tablets and computers, you'd choose exclude Flash, Blu Ray and USB3 and rather keep DVD and USB2 - as it's the way forward?

Don't me wrong - in my short time with the iPad I really love it. As many here have said, there are flaws (intentional or not) but they live them. Very few will say Steve called it 100% right each and every time though.

However - in the interest of thread, let's keep it civil and agree to disagree.
