I am confused as to where my ipad mini sits in relation to all the other ipads on the market. I now know or at least think I know that there are 3 ipad mini's, the 16gig, 32gig and 64gig and then one with a cellular feature.

Which ipad's have been released in South Africa so far?

I also noted that the amount of free games is far let for an ipad then an iphone but then again the games and programs I am running on my ipod touch seem to be working fine on the ipad.

As far a iPad mini's go there are 12 models - 16gb wifi, 16 LTE, 32gb wifi, 32 LTE, 64gb wifi, 64 LTE… in black. Then the same again in white! :)

AFAIK the most recently released models in SA are of the third gen iPad. We're still waiting on the mini and the fourth generation models.

It's really not confusing at all. White/black. Lte/wi-fi only. 16gb/32gb/64gb. Pick one permutation that suits you :)

In general iPads don't have many free apps. So you'll need to get an account to buy the good ones. For games though there are a TON, and basically any iPad compatible game or app will work 100%. There's not really a big difference between iPad Mini and iPad2 for specs, just one is bigger (and previous gen CPU).

There's also no big difference between an ipad and an ipod touch except the size.

Yeah but that in itself is a big difference. The things you'll do on each device are quite varied. Try to read a full book on the iTouch and see how far you get :p.

I have read full books on a phone before and a few mp4's but these days I have stopped reading books and will leave that to the wifey to do.

I actually loaded 2 books last night for the family then showed them how to turn the pages from the top corner and I told them I don't want to see dogeared pages when they done.

Two completely different devices with two completely different purposes that happen to have a lot of similarities.

It's NOT just a case of a different size.

That's like saying a BMW M5 is the same as a BMW 120 because it's bigger.

I've done exactly that for a long time and it works surprisingly well. Just more page turns (which happens in a snap). My kids have access to iPads but prefer to read on the iPod Touch as it is easy to hold in one hand (and very light) whilst lying on bed. The backlight also puts it above the Kindle. The Paperwhite Kindle is going to change all that ... but when oh when are we getting it?!!!

I've always been a big fan of the iPod Touch. Like having a thinner iPhone without 3G. As we have wi-fi throughout the house the Touch works great. Away from home it is paired with a phone for coms.

I first was sent the 32 gig 3rd gen then my daughter bought mommy a 4th gen 8gig touch for Facetime then I was sent a 4th gen 32 gig touch for facetime so handed my 3rd gen to the oldest daughter. Now I have the ipad mini which I am thinking of giving to my wife then she can give the 8 gig to our youngest daughter so we almost all be connected down the line.

I'm really quite impressed with the mini so personally I'd keep it for myself :) Saying that I don't have a iPod touch, though I do have an old iPhone 3g that does fill a similar role.

Bwana when are you going to get a new phone? You've got 10 of every Apple product made except for your iPhone 3g. It's time...

I love the machine too because it's so big but I know my wife would love it to read her self help books and whatnot and when she is not that busy at her shop she likes to watch movies and on the ipod touch it's awkward to see because her eyes ain't that great so having a bigger screen to read and watch stuff would be awesome for her. I told her to take it with to test today.

I know, I know. :) I'm waiting on FNB to get the new iPhone then I'll probably abandon the blackberry ship.

It's awesome having a daughter States side because when she upgrades she passes her old handsets down to us and she said she will be upgrading soon to the iphone 5 and will send her iphone 4 (not sure which one) but we told her no because customs are making us pay for stuff now.

You turned down a R4000 phone because of a R300 customs fee? Just hide it inside a carved out book, duh.

Ask her to send it to me - I'll pay the customs. :D

My dad is also in the states… but he's using a verizon flip phone. :o

EDIT - better still she can send the phone to him and he'll send it to me! :p

ha ha ha

Yeah what is it with flip phones that side, when we were there in 2009 the people we saw were using flip phones and i either heard or read that it was easier to flip it closed which would turn it off, it's almost like their phones are behind ours.

Our daughter just moved into a new apartment and the next door neighbour "befriended her" and sorted out a wi fi connection for her and they were chatting and he asked about the phone and if she would sell it too him but now the dude is like making a pest of himself so now she is torn between promising him he could buy the phone or send it home.
