iPad3 - Need convincing

Oh re the dropped wifi connection I find it works best when set up using a static ip address. settings>general>wifi> then to the right of the network you currently connected to is a small arrow, press it to access the settings menu for the wifi connection.

Do you think iOS 6 will bring more on the customisation front? I may wait a bit before flogging it if iOS 6 brings more to the table.

No. Apple's philosophy isn't for customization and if that is all important to you then you've got the wrong device.

I don't get widgets - at least on the iPad but that's probably just me. On the other hand I see much more of a use for them on a phone. Go figure.

I've also never seen a real need to jailbreak my iPad. I've tried it but always restored it within a few days.

You doing it wrong. :p

Forgot to mention Dashboard X for widgets, oh and AnyAttach so that you can compose an email and attach to it from within the email app.

I think it's just about everyones philosophy. It's only really the Android platform where the user has the freedom to customize to the extent that one can.

Having said that this is my current setup on iPad.

Mike ... Mike ... Mike ...

I cannot help laughing - and enjoying - your story/experience here.

What happened to your wife/daughter needing that animated gif app only available on iOS? LOL!

Get back to your SGT, load the official Italian ICS rom on it, and have a fully functional SGT with camera again. Sammy did a great job with ICS for the SGT10.1.

Go see a priest and confess that you have sinned going the Apple route, especially about that false US iTunes Store account ... the devil made you do this! Then give the iPad 3 to me who's got an Apple disciple for a wife. LOL!

Lol lol lol... I was wondering how long it was going to be until I heard from you in this thread dude :)

My wife IS going to use it. I promise. I just have to fiddle though. Sooooo in my nature :)
She was a long time BB fan. Eventually she moved on and got a Galaxy S2. Then I got her an HTC Flyer (cause of the stylus). Going to be interesting to see her take on the iPad when she starts using it.

Mike, I understand. The curiosity in us make us go into all those dark corners. I, for example, am very keen to try out the new Playbook, because I just have to know what it is like and can do. One unfortunately makes many mistakes being like this ... buying what turns out to be crap out of curiosity. Curiosity killed the cat and many budgets.

BTW, an iPad makes a great Drifta TV once you're gatvol with it.

Ye dude. With all the tips given in this thread I am enjoying playing around with it. As it was when stock, it was plain boring.
I do however feel like I have wasted cash. This thing is certainly not worth the premium asked for it. I am open minded though and will stick with it (along with the help of the guys in this thread) until I am 100% sure.

I am busy negotiating with a dude for his S3. If the deal goes then I fear the iPad may be shelved for a bit. Hoping the wife picks it up and enjoys using it.

Had the drifta and now a walka. When I was picking up an iPad case at the iStore yesterday I looked at the little drifts effort for the iPad. If I keep the pad then I will probably grab one. Will be handy for holidays.

If you want to get a taste of the graphic potential of the new iPad you might want to try:

RealRacing 2 HD and InfinityBlade II.

Also for streaming video over your home wifi network try AirVideo. It requires a small app to be installed on the host pc.It can play most files regardless of file type as live conversion takes place.

Another flash Cydia app would be Quasar which is exactly how multitasking should occur on the iPad.

I'm not promoting piracy here but considering you may not keep the iPad and considering a lot of what I've recommended costs $ you may want to trial before purchasing the "free" versions available in Cydia on the repos I've recommended. The version of the apps which are paid displays in blue while the version of the same app available "free" is displayed in black.

I have purchased a few of the apps you mentioned previously. I don't mind spending a few dollars to help support other devs (being a dev myself) even if I may joy use the app in the future. My take on it is maybe iOS is not my thing now, but with the competition between Apple and Google heating up quite a bit we could see a future iOS that meets my needs and my money spent put to use. I hope anyway :)

I am still laying in bed playing on this thing. You have posted so much info here and it is keeping me very busy. I love fiddling :)

I played Infinity Blade yesterday and was very impressed. This screen is definitely something to gawk at.
Last night I played Orc and was also very impressed. Games designed for this display loot good. Only problem now is the device is a 16GB, so 1 day into owning it and I am already having to use iFunBox to backup stuff to PC and clear space. 64GB was just too expensive though for unknown territory.

Was doing a comparison between Plex on my Galaxy Tab and iPad a few minutes ago.
GT starts up quicker, and the movie starts way faster than the iPad. Also prefer the default menu layouts on the GT. Pretty small things though.
Once the movie is actually playing though... Woah... Big difference in quality. iPad screen is definitely something Apple have going for them. Movie looks insanely good on the iPad 3.

Off to play with the new suggestions you posted ;)

So I caved and got an iPad 3 yesterday afternoon. As most know I love my Android stuff. I was keen to get an iPad 3 because of all the hype around it so eventually caved.

The hardware is excellent. Cannot at all fault it. The screen is simply wow. But... it ends there for me. iOS blows. I am struggling to enjoy it. Being such a long time Android user I am struggling to like iOS. I feel like I have been put in a little box with little room to move.

First thing that really got me was the inability to purchase games. What a let down.
Someone at the office jail broke it and installed Installous and some other app which now gives me a range of games to choose from but it is pirating. On Android I purchase all my software and have around a hundred purchased apps. I understand the reason why we don't get paid games in SA, and know you can do some iTunes USA hack to be able to pay. Why should I though... I paid a kak load for this tablet, but now I must either steal games or find a work around to buy them. WTF! And people punt this technology!

Widgets... where are my Widgets :( Are there any DreamBoard themes that enable me to use Widgets? I miss my weather, pulse, FB, etc... right on my screen.

Anyway... I feel like I have bought into a half baked technology that I have to find workarounds to fully use. I don't like it.
Early this evening I was about to place an ad to sell it, or trade for a quad core android tablet. I decided to not be hasty and ask you guys in the know what I may be doing wrong. What am I missing? I don't want to get rid of it to later find I was doing things wrong and could have actually enjoyed it.

Please guys... convince me. Such an awesome piece of hardware. What can I do to fill the void that iOS is? I am a n00b on iOS and MUST be missing something?

I'm in the exact same boat! Bought the ipad3 and its the biggest POS ever, referring to the software. The hardware is tops!

I love RealRacing!

Enjoy it guys!!!

The jailbreaking community have done a great job at rectifying a lot of what is perceived to be wrong with iOS.

My iDevices are indistinguishable from their un-jailbroken counterparts.

I concede, vanilla iOS can be incredibly limiting and frustrating to use for those of us who expect and enjoy a bit of flexibility in our tech gadgets.

For millions upon millions upon millions though, stock iOS is more than adequate.

Follow some of the suggestions from the peeps in this thread dude. Helps quite a bit to find useful stuff to do with your new toy.

iPad definitely way over priced though for what you get out the box. In other countries where everything is open I can see value. Not here though.

Why thank you. Never thought of that

If I buy a device I research extensively beforehand; I don't buy on impulse, get frustrated then ask people to convince me why I should keep it. If it doesn't suit you, sell it.
