I want to get an older iPhone 11 or 12, but the Pro model if possible. I see lots of places stock the old iPhone models - but I've only ever seen standard models?

Do Apple not make old Pro models?

Apple typically discontinue their Pro models when they announce the new models. Often time the standard models continue to be produced and sold but at a lower price e.g.
iPhone 12 and 12 Pro/Pro Max get announced, Apple discontinue the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max but they bring down the price of the standard 11 and continue to produce and sell that particular model for another 2 years or so.

You might have to look at refurbished Pro models if you want older ones, at this point I would say get a refurbished 12 Pro Max, it has the bigger camera sensor (12 Pro non-Max uses the same sensor as 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max).

I believe Mac Shack may have in stock, make sure the battery is new/recently replaced.

Right about now is a terrible time to buy, it seems. I don't want to pay so much for an iPhone 13 Pro now when the 14 is just around the corner.

And when the 14 are launched, from what you say they'll keep the 13 models and discontinue the 13 Pro? Though this may be different this year as 14 standard will have the same chips as the 13?

It means wait a few months or be prepared to pay top $ for last year's model now

If you look on Takealot they have the X, 11, 12 if you're going older. I personally think they're still overpriced at the prices advertised on TA.

Why? It's still the best smartphone around with the best battery? Might as well go all out.

If the rumours are true, and the non pro 14 has the same chip as the 13 Pro, the 13 Pro would still be a more sensible option - better camera system, materials, etc. But yes, I talked about it in the iPhone 13 discussion forum as well, the Pro models of the outgoing model normally get discontinued and the non pro models become more affordable models.

If you don't want to go for a 14 Pro, buy the 13 Pro now. Otherwise wait for the 14 Pro, which will, according to a lot of indications, be more expensive anyway.

But - remember everything we know so far about the 14 range is just RUMOURS. In my opinion, one shouldn't base buying decisions on rumours. Some rumours become true, yes, but as I realised with WWDC2022, lots of rumours about the event itself as well as the models and software announced, did not materialise.

I would definitely wait, between July until September it’s a bad time to get a new iPhone if you want the latest and greatest. 14 should be on our shores in October.

Some of our networks don’t even have stock of some of the 13s, I was looking into a 13 Pro Max 1TB in Alpine Green and stock was like a month out on Vodacom when I last checked, I stand to be corrected though.

The iStore has stock of the 13 Pro Max 1TB Alpine Green;

You can also do network contract upgrades through the iStore.

I know the iStore gets a lot of flak being a monopoly when it comes to Apple products, but I find their pricing, exchange program and customer service overall to be great.

Without having specifically an iPhone?

So the lady says that most is on backorder right now via a contract

She can'[t give an ETA - but there will be a wait. They have phones at the store for cash sales only .

Are you looking for contract deals only?

Lots to be found on the secondhand market

Yea - my Vodacom is due to be upgraded anyway

Pity they don't have 11 / 12 Pro anymore - but I have found a single iPhone 13 Pro ... but whew, like R1.2k over 24 months.

I'll have to really think about iPhone 12 (standard) vs iPhone 13 Pro and the pricing between both. I also hear iPhone 14 is going to be a fairly big jump, so maybe this price isn't that bad long term

I would rather go SIM only on the contract and buy the phone cash instead.

Will save you a chunk of change

So not quite what I wanted to do - but I ended up getting an iPhone 13 Pro on contract .

Cost wise, not the best choice, but it is what it is .

There is very little stock of anything
