iPhone 12 Rumours & Release Date

Is there anyone here using a 12 pro in SA

I'm keen to know the data options available

3G / LTE / 5G

Or

LTE / 5G only

I'm aware of the specs. The reason I'm asking is because 5G coverage is limited , LTE is not that great , is there the option to choose 3G only as it saves battery.

Some parts of CPT still only has Edge coverage.

I'd imagine that setting is down to iOS and not the model, and currently iOS 14 allows you to set to either 4g or 3g.

Yeah fair enough. Thinking about it, Orange disabled the Hotspot on my iPhone in Senegal. But I can't imagine they would disable the 3g only option because as you say, coverage is patchy in areas.

What network you using? Honestly saw a massive difference in GP between Vodacom and MTN LTE.

MTN has decent 3 bar or more LTE almost 90% where as Vodacom was basically always at 1/2 bars. Generally I would just turn off LTE since it frustrated me more with calls not ringing or dropping more compared to 3G.

My old iPhone 7 battery life has improved considerably since porting.

I'm using Telkom Mobile , 3G is faster than LTE in my area.
 
I assume having the 4G only version makes sense since Telkom and Cell C will basically have no use for the phone.

My view on it is if you are a guy thats planning on using the phone for only 2 years sure 5G probably wont matter much.

But these days 4 years is the average for a lot of folks with their iPhones so its hard to say how the networks will look like in 4 years time.

Maybe better knowing you have it than not having it?

But I find it really hard to believe that Apple will even bother with a 4G only version.

Same. On a separate note, if I’m upgrading, my next phone has to have 5G. With the prices and update policy of iPhones, I’d keep the phone for more than 3 years.
 
Wikipedia page has been updated, Pro Max is listed as being available in SA on the 27th of November. Guess we wait and see now
