In this thread, someone posted the details on the import tax, I think it was 17%? Don't quote me on that. But somewhere in this thread, the details are there.I hate Apple...but I am expecting my iPhone 12 Pro 128Gb on 22 December because I basically got it for free from an international associate....
Can I expect customs charges and VAT etc? He sent it via Aramex

Importing a smartphone to South Africa – Prices and warranties compared
Here is what you need to consider before you import a smartphone to South Africa.mybroadband.co.za
Did some digging and found that the Tax we pay on a smartphone is high.
Import costs
Although certain exceptions may be made for particular cellphones, SARS regards smartphones as luxury items.
As such, importing them from another country will incur certain import taxes.
There are three fees a buyer should add to the listed price of a smartphone when purchasing it from an international source.
These are as follows:
“For a round figure, a device costing R10,000 (excl. shipping), would arrive at a cost of approximately R12,750 (excl. shipping) but including VAT,” Levitan said.
- Ad valorem/luxury tax of 15% on the listed price.
- Duty tax of 7% on top of the list price with added luxury tax.
- 15% VAT on the total amount after both luxury and duty tax.

Where is it delivering to, Spizz? The sms came to my wife’s phone this afternoon. Delivery on 23rd December![]()
So my optimistic ass is going to guess that since you and Kev’s have the same waybill history currently and you’re both in the CPT area (more or less). Kev’s will deliver on Friday as per his sms, so I hope perhaps yours will too as they’re in the same shipment. Maybe Monday latest. The sms came to my wife’s phone this afternoon. What has me frothing at the mouth is how the ****** ! Does a order that was probably one of the very first orders that morning at 0:34 can still be sitting on “Processing”??I reckon we all announce our displeasure to iStore/Core if it's later than Monday. How is it fair for people to get it in-store on the 18th but the people that PAID IN ADVANCE don't get it on launch and even almost a week later?
No. This is not acceptable.

What was the logic of how they handled the orders?
It is also so so disappointing to see someone just walk into a store on the 18th and get the phone. Yet someone that paid in full a week in advance needs to be satisfied with a shitty SMS of delivery on the 23rd!? Core Group Cmon man!
And that was basically to receive a bunch of iPhone’s in a container. Unpack them. Open a website to preorder and pack these iPhones into a box and stick a shipping label on the box... and yet you cant manage that properly?Yes. I am LIVID. This is the one thing I was looking forward to at least on Friday, given the complete shitshow of a year I, and I'm sure we've all had.
This makes no sense and it's evident they have no system in place. They had one bloody job.

You had multiple launches and months to prepare.
Hope @rpm @Jamie McKane see this thread and runs a story as an example of the worst preorder launch in history “Premium” in Reseller just means a Premium heap of ****Yeah, ”Premium Reseller” my foot. I am going to blast them if I get an sms saying it's late next week. What's the point of even pre-ordering if you can't get it on launch? Isn’t that the precise point and why we pre-order in the first place.
And while I see how in-store collection would have been complicated this year given COVID and crowd management, then at least MAKE SURE it’s delivered on launch to the people that pre-ordered.
