iPhone 12 Rumours & Release Date

Thanks man. I understand what you mean. The NXTech cases on takealot look decent but I’d really like to try them out first. Do you know of stores that stock them where one could try them out and purchase?
Nah, I don't know any store that has them.. I was checking for myself as well because their cases looks good. But I couldn't even find a website for them.. :X3:

Ah okay. And now with the Xmas period on our doorstep, takealot will only deliver next week. And I’m not going to hide this bad boy in the box any longer lol. Looks like I might be heading to the istore...

I was thinking of trading in my 10s but got bummed out by the fact they only give you a gift card in return, and not cash. I’m now rethinking this...

What have the rest of you done with your previous iPhones? Not sure how safe and viable it is to try and sell on for eg. Marketplace.

I also have that fear or buying and selling privately. There's just too many scammers out there now. But there are forums that you can get on *carbon* where there is a little more comfort to know that members have rated buyers/sellers before.
Worst case, you can trade it in and get your case/charger/etc with the voucher.

Yeah the latter was my consideration as well. Just need that glass protector and case ASAP :sneaky:

Anybody here a bit more serious about their photography hobby who owns a Pro or Mini model. Has a kwestion...

I've had my 12 mini in a crappy plastic case so long until I could get something decent, and now having had my saddle brown leather magsafe case delivered from the iStore (using the R1000 voucher) I have to say wow, what a thing of beauty this phone has become.

I wasn't really aware of the flat edges and the true form factor of it until now as the plastic case had rounded sides and it felt just like it was a smaller 11. Now with the shaped leather case I just can't stop handling it and rolling it around in my hands.

R1649 is a lot of money for a case of course and if I never had the voucher I probably wouldn't have bought it. But knowing what I know now, I'd happily pay the full price

I've got a mini but I'm strictly a point and shoot kind of photographer. I can check settings or whatever for you if that's what you want.

Wanted to know if the Pro is worth it over the Mini + a decent 1" point and shoot. There's an R8k difference, is that extra portrait lens worth it?

EDIT: Battery power, Lidar etc. aside

Someone here had both and I'm sure they'll comment.

I really don't see this as a difficult task. If food delivery services in SA are doing it, why can't every other courier company do the same?! The cost of wasted time is way more than getting any software house to develop something like this. The problem is that companies still do not see how the lack of tech innovation in their organization can mean certain death in the next few years..
It's due to the fact that Mr Delivery and the like don't have R100K+ worth of goods in their vehicles.

Hijacking is a thing in South Africa...

Ah okay, sorry I can't help. That'll be a whoosh from me then :p

1) you can only track if you have a link for your own parcel.
2) it isn't in complete real-time, it is about 5-10 minutes behind, so when it shows the courier at x, he's already left and is on his way to y.

Just to get it out of the way, the difference between 12 Pro and 12 Mini on the camera is only the telephoto lens, not so much on the "portrait" lens.

To me, it's more about the convenience of having everything in one phone that's good enough for the need than having to carry multiple devices, especially if one of them is a camera (point&shoot or DSLR or mirrorless DSLR). I will have my phone with me all the time, but not necessarily my camera, none of my pants have big enough pocket to fit a camera anyway

I do have a Fuji X-Pro2, the quality of the photos it takes is probably leaps ahead of any phone camera today... but one needs to understand what is it that you really want and use your phone for. For the most of us (I believe), use our phone to take pictures of families and share with other family members or on social media. As long as the phone can take "good enough" photos, day and night, it should really be sufficient.

Either of the 12 Pro or Mini will do a fantastic job in taking photos, computational photography is the future. Getting a point & shoot camera to "compensate" the iPhone 12 Mini, though to me, is really unnecessary.

That's the thing right, you want it to be sufficient for 80% of the photos you take and leave the rest to a made for purpose camera.

I'm questioning whether the extra money spent on the pro is a significant enough advantage and by the looks of it it's not.

But in no rush to trade my iPhone 8 in just yet, so will see in a month or two what's what.

Dot rule out the foreign cell repair shops. I picked up a silicone case for my XS Max which was packaged the same as Apple’s, same quality and was R350 compared to R899

I bought this for my black 12 mini from Istore

The back is slightly transparent as I can still see the Apple logo through it so looks really good. Now it looks like the back of the phone is matt black.
