iPhone 12 Rumours & Release Date

What is signal quality like in SA with the new Qualcomm modem compared to previous iPhones with the Intel modem.

Also , are you noticing improved data speeds with the new modem ?

Many US users have been complaining about poor signal quality

Anybody here a bit more serious about their photography hobby who owns a Pro or Mini model. Has a kwestion...
Someone here had both and I'm sure they'll comment.

I have the 12 Pro Max as well as picked up the Mini for my wife. To be 100% honest, the differences are negligible and not worth the price difference, when just considering the cameras.

If you bring the other aspects into it (LiDAR, Screen Size, Battery, Night Mode Photography etc) then it makes it a more convincing difference in price.

When just using the Wide angle, there is minimal differences, where you would need to pixel peek to see the differences in 90% of the pictures. Where the Pro Max (and Pro) would shine, is the faster focus, due to the LiDAR sensor, then would be the better night mode shots and night mode portrait. But I dont use the night mode portrait, so cant really comment there.

The night mode on the Pro Max is slightly faster. On the Mini, the same pic might need 2 or 3 seconds, where the Pro Max needs 1 - 2 seconds, to take the same picture. So depending on your hand stability, this is negligible, where for me, I have a hand tremor, so the stabilization and faster night shooting of the Pro Max is worthwhile for me.

My main thing with my phone and the camera on it, I have a young daughter (9 months old, so not a COVID baby :) ) and I want to be able to take the best pictures I can of her, hence me throwing the extra cash at it. If it wasnt for her, I probably would've gone for the 12.

Will do some test pics tomorrow between the Mini and the Pro Max and will share them, let you decide if the differences are worth it

iStore pricing is very interesting...

I went to MTN Centurion Mall and they said they don't do eSim for prepaid lines only contract.
You're lucky. I've been to 3 MTN stores. Two of them said they don't have 'stock' of eSims - I then didn't even bother to continue the conversation. The third said they only do eSims with contracts with the phones that support them. So no eSim on prepaid nor sim-only deals.

I'm so tired of this back and forth.

Did anyone here upgrade through MTN app? It's been three days and I have not heard a thing. I have tried calling, emailing and hittin them up on Twitter....no reply at all.

Hi guys,

Just got my iPhone 12 128gb

This is my 1st iPhone since the original iPhone all those years ago,

I must say the transition is a lot smooth than expected,

Build quality is excellent, and at that price point I wouldn’t expect nothing less.

Camera is excellent.

Battery life is not bad at all.

Overall, I don’t regret moving over from Android to iOS.

If you guys have any tips though, it will be appreciated

Thanks

Thanks man. I understand what you mean. The NXTech cases on takealot look decent but I’d really like to try them out first. Do you know of stores that stock them where one could try them out and purchase?
Have a NXTech case and pretty happy. Nice and slim but feels protected

They are all talking rubbish. Also had the same fight and went to The Grove mall one. Told her to do a Sim swop I accept the risks.

Explained to her in the Sim swop menu you can select eSIM and click generate. Be prepared for your current sim to die immediately and to wait up to 24hrs for the eSIM QR code to arrive.

No it does not work on Prepaid but yes it does work on Sim-only contract lines.

The QR code generated can be used on any iPhone that supports eSIM irrespective of where your bought the phone.

No issues. Actually surprised with Telkom LTE coverage running MTN and Telkom dual sim.

Is there any additional fees for this service or a once off payment ?

Thank god someone with real information.

By what means does the QR arrive?

Oh, so only Vodacom and MTN support eSIM at present? Does it work flawlessly on Vodacom? Is Telkom far from being able to implement this?

No word on Telkom.
MTN works better as physical sim dies VS Vodacom wherein the physical sim needs to be online to receive calls
