These are special import from regions which have two physical nano sim slots. It’s not the regular nano and esim supported on other iPhones. So it is most definitely a benefit over the regular iPhones, if you’re looking for this option.

Now that MTN have announced esim support i feel the need for physical dual sim is pretty much negated - I’ll hook up my primary sim via esim and keep the physical sim open for travel. Not sure what others use case is but I don’t see much benefit to the physical dual sim now.

I may be mistaken but I think only MTN is supporting esim for the iPhone at this point. Vodacom, I think, is only supporting the Apple Watch currently. There are the other carriers who don’t support esim at all.
So it would be highly beneficial in these cases.

I'm on the same page. Especially when all you need to do to change your eSim network is just scan a QR Code.

I use Vodacom eSIM.... it does work even though they say it’s for wearables.

Can you use the eSim for just data?
Also isn't there an issue with the Vodacom one in that you need to use another phone to keep the physical sim online?

Yea you can use it for just data.

You only have to keep a physical sim online if you want to be able to receive calls. Data, and making calls is unaffected. I keep my sim in an old Nokia plugged into the wall at the back of cupboard.

Those prices hurt my soul. . . A lot more than what I expected and they on 36 month contracts. BUT at the same time, they all coming with the 4Gb data bundle, so that pushes the price up. But the handset costs is still pretty ouch, even for a 3 year
