iPhone 14 discussions

Samsung can’t stop talking about the iPhone 14, and it’s getting a little creepy

Even before the iPhone 14 was announced on Wednesday, Samsung was already mocking Apple for the lack of “innovation” in the new iPhone models. Now that the iPhone 14 has finally been revealed to the world, the South Korean company is back with a new marketing campaign making fun of Apple for not offering features that Samsung smartphones already have.

Samsung makes jokes with iPhone 14

In a series of tweets, Samsung shared its “reactions” to “new devices announced on Wednesday.” While the company makes no mention of Apple, it’s pretty clear that the new campaign is aimed at iPhone 14 and iPhone users.

Two of the tweets are related to foldable phones, which Samsung has been offering for a while now. With messages like “What the flip, Apple?” and “What’s the hold on the Fold, Apple?” Samsung makes fun of having introduced its first foldable phone more than two years ago, while Apple still doesn’t have one.

Another joke made by Samsung is related to the camera. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a new 48MP wide lens, which marks the first megapixel upgrade in iPhone since the iPhone 6s camera in 2015. However, Samsung says “48 megapixels? You’re almost there, Apple” as the company introduced a 108-megapixel sensor with the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020.

But the campaign doesn’t stop there. As noted by some people, Samsung has even put up billboards with similar jokes. One of them says that Galaxy devices have been able to record video in 8K for over two years, while even iPhone 14 Pro is still limited to 4K video.

While some people seem to enjoy the jokes, others don’t see how they can convince someone to switch from iPhone to a Samsung smartphone.

This is bigger than Coca-Cola versus Pepsi

Nah... it's just Samsung vs themselves.

Samsung have a habit of teasing Apple for removing features (like the headphone jack) then doing the exact same thing the very next year - and then trying to pull all those ads teasing Apple from the internet.

The Barbra Streisand effect.

I do enjoy the way Samsung go about it though, I saw they got some influencers to “clap” with the Z Flip, but then when people looked into many of those influencers they found that most of them use iPhones
It feels like Samsung gives Apple more airtime than anything else they do which is sad as they do have great products, if the S22 Ultra used the TSMC S8+Gen1 I think it would have truly been an even more great of a device.

Yeah, the classic Gal Gadot posting about how great the new Huawei is on Twitter, but forgetting to remove the “Twitter for iPhone” at the bottom of the post.

Apple generally doesn’t go all out against competitors anyway because it really doesn’t need to anymore. You’re either going to buy an iPhone, or you’re not - they’re really not going to go out of their way to convince you, their market share is already high enough. And just about everyone that already has an iPhone is most likely going to keep buying them for their next phones.

Same can’t be said for Android manufacturers: they tend to slate each other to try and get ahead all the time. Brand loyalty doesn’t seem to be a thing, either, because all people seem to want it a) really cheap b) fast charging c) huge battery d) huge camera, and each manufacturer promises to do all those things better than the next guy.

Indeed!
Apple have established their brand identity in the market and as you say, people are either going to buy and iPhone or not, they have a loyal base.

Android manufacturers on the other hand have an incredibly difficult time establishing a brand identity and loyalty with their audience. Many of them want to establish an identity and base like Apple’s but just cannot seem to land it.

Pre-ordered the standard 128 GB in Midnight colour. Pre-order confirmed and card charged with pickup on the 16th. Will mark my return to iPhone since my old iPhone 7 that's been in the drawer for a while now.

Where did you order?

I had a slight glitch when ordering (I went for the silver Pro 128GB) and it was only allowing delivery for some reason, I didn't want to mess about changing things so it's going to be delivered on Friday.

I ordered through the Apple store in Thailand. I just went for the base model and all their pickup slots were available which was surprising as the Apple stores over there normally go nuts the first week of a new release.

There is a pattern here.
iPhone 11 Pro Max - big battery
iPhone 12 Pro Max - smaller battery
iPhone 13 Pro Max - bigger battery
iPhone 14 Pro Max - slightly smaller battery (I think the A16 will this tiny difference up in its efficiency)

Lol, I wonder if it is just coincidence, but this could mean the iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a decent bump in battery capacity.

The iPhone 14 Plus is going to be the most interesting though, mix that 4325mah battery with a 60hz screen and iOS, it’s definitely going to show a lot of phones flames in battery tests.

I won’t be shocked if the 14 Plus becomes the “buyers choice overall.”

Lol, scratch what I said about the 14 Plus, apparently the Preorders aren’t looking too great

Not too surprising TBH. The type of people who pre-order want the newer phones \ new chips. With this years 14 range being on last year SOC, I guess Apple is getting what they want, more people buying the Pro's with the new SOC, but I am sure that as the year goes by, you will see the 14 Plus sales start to rise

Makes sense, more enthusiasts buying right now than the average Joe/Jane.

I guess also as more people give the 14 Plus a go in-store the more of them will be interested in it overtime.

It doesn't help that the 14 Plus is only available in October, some people will likely go for an alternative rather than wait.

so kind of related, but feel free to ignore if this is the wrong place, but has anyone had luck with MTN Business\Corporate eSIM's? I fought tooth and nail 2 years ago to get my MTN corp eSIM working, with me jumping to the 14 PM on release, I am worried about downtime trying to get the eSIM transferred to the new device.
