As quoted here: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/iPhone+news/news.asp?c=13738

"what's really exciting is the confirmation of the $99 iPhone rumour. Apparently, from today, the 8GB 3G iPhone will drop to $99."

99 USD in ZAR = R801

Does this mean that we could import these babies for only a little more? Does anyone know what the best way to bring em over would be?

Kind regards
Linden

Why not? Surely they can't prevent you from bringing in an iPhone? Gift? Gift anyone? Someone sends it to me as a gift? :)

AFAIK the $99 3G iPhones are only available with a two year ATT contract.

And as far as i know this isn't the new one it's the older version that they are dropping the price on. Isn't it?

Ah, didn't think that through. So the cash price will obviously be much higher? Import duties ain't to hassle. ;-)

Correct - that $99 is on a 24 month contract, just like with VC, cept VC charge an arm and a leg.

Honestly cannot understand how people can still be mystified by this... even more so since weve been through it all once already.

It seems fairly obvious to me that were looking at a fat pay in (R2k or more depending on model) when it first drops followed by no pay in on the base model after a month or three.

Anyone who honestly thinks they are getting an iPhone for R1k is an idiot... 'fer chrissake even a shuffle costs more than that!

Arrgh, the ignorance burns my eyes!!
I might still forgive people for thinking you'd pay like R2K for an iPhone when the first generation was released, but seriously, by now you should know better!

Think that hurts? Wait until they try to wrap their heads around the whole 'in-contract upgrade' fiasco... thats going to breed a whole new form of confusion!
