iPhone 4 from Australia

Guys the antenna issue on the i4 is completely blown out of proportion...When it comes to calling you will be fine as long as you do not try to intentionally touch the bad spot. The only irritating thing I have needed to get used to is when I am web browsing my middle finger tends to wrap around the phone and short the two antennae. I've just had to adjust the way I hold the phone...The retina display makes it all worth it...I will never be able to use my 3Gs again!!! Its seriously amazing!

Thanks for the heads up! Mostly use my phone on Wi-Fi, but good to know!

oh LOL! The antenna issue is blown out of proportion as long as you dont touch the bad spot?
So, I guess its not blown out of proportion then? Fanboy fail. Also with the careful touching while web browsing. LOL!

Your friend can bring you one over from Aus, no problem. Just keep in mind that he has to buy one from an Apple store - they are not locked and thus open to any network. He MUST NOT buy one from a cell phone store (like a Telstra or Vodafone store) because they are all network locked.

Once you receive the phone here in SA you can put your SA SIM in it and plug the phone into iTunes - it then "activates" on the network (same as the ones from Vodacom do) :) You need to do this activation every time you reload the OS on the phone. (As long as the phone is factory unlocked - which those from Apple Stores in Aus are - you can use any network's SIM to activate the phone).

Hope this helps :)

By the ways - just hope your friend can find one in a store - they are pretty hard to find (ver very popular). I ordered mine on the Australian Online Apple Store on the 1st of August and it's only been prepared for shipping today...

Both Sydney and Melbourne Apple stores had in stock when I was there a week back.

Thank you very much Chavez. Do you think they will ship to Brisbane though? Delivery time on Apple's website is 3 weeks, so I assumed it applies to all stores.
Will ask my friend to phone them and find out. Thank you very much!

Those that you order from Apple's Online Store don't come from a physical store's stock. They come from a warehouse somewhere. Ordered my iPad and iPhone 4 online. iPad came from Sydney and iPhone came from Hong Kong (thus the longer shipping times)...

Got the same answer from my friend in AUS. Decided to stop the wait and order from Techoni (in Sydney). Placed order 5 min ago... now to stay calm for 2 weeks... I will go and meet him at the airport, not to say hi, obviously! ;P

So, how much did this set you back?

Paying a slight premium at Techoni compared to Apple directly - not too much extra to get it quicker though :)

My iPhone 4 should be delivered at my mom's house in Brisbane on Wednesday!!!! Flying through the weekend - CAN"T WAIT!!

Add $16.40 for shipping. I am waiting fir the charge to appear on my CC statement, but estimate it to be about R6700.

And off course, add R125 for a CAPDASE soft Jacket 2 Expose.

Ha ha - feel the love ;)

He is a Gadget Junkie himself, so I'm sure he would understand. ;)
You lucky prick! I think you may shut it now. :)

Wish he could, but I'm going there for a month (lekker loooong holiday). Only back the end of September ;)

Somehow, the 4th of september does not feel THAT far away. What I could do is make a skype call to rapid and ask him to push the buttons while I sit and "Man that is cool, watch out, you are touching the antennae. That is better. Man this new phone of mine is awesome. Lets play tap tap revenge!"

Lol.

Well, only 12 days to go......

Come to think of it - we should do a Facetime call :) Think the first call has to be over the standard cell network before Facetime is activated for that contact then though. Then afterwards you can initiate a Facetime call directly - which is then free internationally - yeah!!! Gotta check it out...

Facetime sounds awesome. Pity I will be the first (and only for now) person in my Circle Of Apple Groupies to have the iPhone 4.
Found this article some time ago, facetime, and yes, you need to initiate the voice call first, which is a 'downside', but like the author mentions, you do not need to register for anything, make a call, switch to FT and you are done. Only works on WiFi though

I think When the new iPod touches come out with facetime, there will be an update to iOS which lets you facetime someone on their email address.
