Good morning all

I seldom post here but am constantly reading and keeping up to date..
Hoping somebody can help me out here

I have a 3G and have seen that models from the US once unlocked, lose PUSH functionality but have just found a contact that has a iPhone 4 bought directly from an iStore in London

Will an iPhone bought from the UK have activation problems or should I wait for local stock to arrive?

Got two from the UK a month or two back - no issues whatsoever... works perfectly on both Voda and MTN.

We have iPhone on many networks here, so I very much doubt the ones in the Apple Store are network locked.

Note that the official Apple stores are not called "iStore" - make sure he didn't buy it from some 3rd party dealer.

I was hoping to get 1 from the UK from a mate who was coming to SA from there. But they are all sold out, people are apparently still queuing through the night as the new shipment arrives.

Yup, a buddy got here yesterday and asked him to try and get, still a 3 week min. waiting list even if you order online. So sucked I wasn't able to get.

I got my 3G while there an it's locked to O2.
So every time I want to upgrade the the OS I need to make sure there's a jailbreak and sim unlock out.

Unlocking iPhone 4

To make sure our iPhone 4 stock is reserved exclusively for genuine O2 customers during launch, we won't unlock iPhone 4 until after the launch period. Please check back here for the latest information on unlocking iPhone 4.

Unlocking 2G, 3G & 3GS

Pay Monthly and Business customers

Your iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and put a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term of your contract.

Pay & Go customers

You can unlock your iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS for a one-off cost of £15. The payment for this will come from the money topped-up on your phone.

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On that we added for the first 12 months.

What do I need to do?

First, complete the unlocking form. It will take up to 14 days for your iPhone to be unlocked and we'll text you to confirm the unlock request.

Then place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that the iPhone has been successfully unlocked.
