Hello there,
The MYBB oldies will remember me from the JB/iPhone scene from a while ago. But I haven't been able to keep up with all the news/tools lately. I have an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 that I want to restore and upgrade to iOS5. It is factory locked so I need to preserve the baseband so I can ultrasn0w unlock it on iOS5.

I am assuming that the best method is still frimware building tools? What software will let me update to iOS5 whilst still preserving my baseband? The firmware must be jailbreakeable non-tethered. If you could link to a full tutorial, that would be great.

Thanks

You can use the latest Redsnow for Windows or Mac from here: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Or try pwnagetool for mac, or snowbreeze for Windows.

There are tons of tutorials out there, just google "preserve baseband iphone 4 5.0.1" or something and you'll get it.

Like here is a tutorial, with pwnagetool. But I believe redsnow can do the same.
Thanks. I tried sn0wbreeze as I normally have luck with it, but it just isn't working for me. I did everything according to the tutorials ,but I keep getting error 1061 or 1062. I have gotten out of DFU and still working on 4.2.1, but this is really irritating!

I've gotten got a UK network locked iPhone 4 jailbroken on 5.0.1. using the redsn0w_win_0.9.10b4 tool, but I am stuck since I have the "No Service" issue due to the fact that the phone is still network locked.

edit: The phone is a loan phone so at least I didn't pay for a network locked phone. Currently using the thing as an iPod Touch essentially!

The network lock issue appears to be due to the fact that I am on baseband 4.11.08 for which there is no unlocking method yet.
