iPhone 4 to arrive mid August

Just got mail from Vodacom to sign up for approval for the iPhone 4: http://www.vodacomcommunications.co.za/index.php

That looks like a fake site someone created to harvest email addresses... I would NOT enter any details on that form if I were you.

Just have a look at: http://co.za/cgi-bin/whois.sh?Domain=vodacomcommunications&Enter=Enter

It was registered for the first time on the 9th of September this year.

And if you look at the source, it's basically a copy of http://www.vodacom.co.za/iphone4/ with some of the javascript includes commented out.

Anyone know where to report this site so it can be properly investigated by the autorities? I've already sent it to Vodacom to check out.

I signed up a few months ago on the Vodacom site for the iPhone 4. Was expecting this email from them, got it just now, the url is a long tracking url that redirect to that page. So it looks ligit to me.

Comes from striata.com, which looks like a mailing/tracking service.

So if you signed up on the Vodacom website, why would they need your information again? Just looks a bit dodge to me. But that might just be me being paranoid :D

I was also expecting this mail and it looks legit to me. Mail headers look ok as well. The original sign up form only required an email address and phone number IIRC. But yes, if you feel unsafe then don't use it to submit any of your information.

Just got a message back from Vodacom customer care, it seems that is a valid website to register on. So just ignore my previous post...

Received some feedback from various Vodashops in the Gauteng area about the iPhone launch date, some don’t have a clue and some say end of September / October:

Centurion Lake: “Unfortunately we do not have stock yet, we will receive stock hopefully end of September.”
Centurion Retail: “We don’t know yet…”
Menlyn Retail: “We have not received any information on the availability of the iPhone 4 as of yet...”
Centurion Mall: “Vodacom didn’t gave us a date for I phone 4”
Woodlands Mall: “No date yet”
Nelson Mandela Square: “We are expecting them in October”
The Reds: “We do not have the actual date for it yet because the status on it still shows its coming soon.so its anytime soon” – best reply ever :)
Rosebank Mall: “We don’t have a date on the release of the iPhone 4.”
Atterbury Value Mart: “We expect the launch date to be in October.”
Killarney Mall: “There is still no news of the iph 4.”

I don't think Apple will be adding new countries like South Africa to the list until other countries have had their waiting lists reduced a little. Like European countries and the States where Apple is trying to gain whatever market share they can against Android. They are not going to bother with South Africa (an easy win) at least until the white iphone becomes available. Then it will be the same thing here when we get the black one and everyone here will be asking when we are getting white iphones... ;)

MTN Centurion told me that they are only expecting it in December. Most likely just to get me to upgrade now. Luckily my wait is over, decided to go for the Galaxy S.

Schweeeet!! Congrats dude!! They are totally awesome phones :)

Thx loving it so far the retina d is gorgeous makes my 3gs look fuzzy. I feel for all the guys waiting for SA to get it. I could not wait so imported it and enjoying it thus far. 350mb free ram on boot up how awesome is that

I just had word from someone very reliable in the industry that has asked me not to mention where or who he works for but they are expecting stock in the first week in October but also said that knowing how these things pan out it would likely only be mid October...

The stock has been ordered and is apparently on its way to SA but no other details are available....

My sources have also said they should be officially launched first week in October. Then again, things can always change so let's see...
