I attempted to update my iPhone 4S to IOS 7.1. I left it connected to my PC via USB and using the latest version of iTunes (Windows) to download the update and install overnight.

This morning I wake up to find that my iPhone 4S is now in recovery mode. Worse. When I use the RESTORE option. It just shows the loading bar with the message "Restoring iPhone software...". It's been in this state for over an hour now and seems to be stuck. There are no error messages shown.

I've tried re-installing iTunes and it's still doing the same thing. My iPhone has never been Jailbroken

Any ideas?

try restoring on another computer ...might sound strange, but i cannot restore on my main computer, as i always get errors ... so i use another computer to do my restores.

Can you get the phone out of recovery mode to the iOS you were on initially?

As @cerebus mentioned - first thing to do is put your phone into Recovery Mode, iTunes will then automatically detect your phone is in Recovery mode and tell you it needs to be restored.

If that doesn't work, then also try using a different USB port - this has helped me before.

Let us know if you have any problems.
