iPhone 5 a sure fire flop?

Bypass the exaggerated hyperbole.

It is a phone. Some people like it, others will not. Some people will want it more than others.

Kinda like most things in retail these days.
Shoes, jeans, cars.
Designed... built... marketed... sold.

Bought by you and I.

Cut the emotional hyperbole.

I'll start by saying I'm an iPhone 4 user, and I intend buying a 5 on Friday. I haven't preordered because I want to see the colours in person before deciding.

But, it isn't really going to cost me much to do so, I got the most expensive phone I could as an upgrade 2 weeks ago, a lovely plastic fantastic Galaxy S3. I tried it for a week, just to see how much better it was than my old Galaxy S2 (it wasn't, other than a better camera).

I then sold the Galaxy S3 (I got ÂŁ340 for it, UK pricing), and I've now been offered ÂŁ250 for my iPhone 4. The 16GB iPhone 5 will cost me ÂŁ529 (so in profit by ÂŁ61) or ÂŁ599 (costing me ÂŁ9) for the 32GB.

In essence, a nice cheap upgrade ;)

.. a nice cheap downgrade in my book.

ÂŁ599 for the 32GB.

That is a 5hitload of money for a phone - over R8000 in funny money !

ÂŁ699 for 64GB!

But that is the price direct from Apple, an unsusubsidised, unlocked phone. (One thing the UK is still behind SA on is the fact they still allow the networks to lock their phones).

on contract, I think the cheapest Ive seen is ÂŁ79 for the 16GB and then ÂŁ36 per month, (but with the contract will work out over ÂŁ800 over the contract).

My existing contract is only ÂŁ18 a month for 600 min, 500 SMS, 60 international minutes and unlimited internet, no way I want to double my monthly spend.

Yeah, because only smart people buy Android!

You know I once thought that people who proclaimed that 'Apple can do no wrong!' were annoying. Now I know better. Apple-Haters are worse.

I agree, after using my iphone 4 for so long, the SGS3 really did feel like a downgrade ;)

I have to agree with Wag.

There isn't much of a comparison between an iPhone 4 and a SG3.

Yes - the iPhone 4 is built better and feels better, but when it comes to functionality and usability how can the SG3 be a 'downgrade'? The is rated as one of the best phones on the market, one of the best sellers on the market, does everything an iPhone does - and more - and has persuaded a fair number of Apple users to switch?

There are plenty of Apple fans on here - but they will at least acknowledge the S3 being a great phone. A comment like yours automatically puts you in an 'iSheep' category

Re-read Wags post, he is being the droid fanboi, I posted I got an S3 as an upgrade which I sold to part fund buying an iPhone 5, (with a joke comment about the sale of the phones making for a cheap upgrade) he then commented "a nice cheap downgrade".

Droid fanboi Wag is the troll in that comment, or do you agree with him that the iPhone 5 is a downgrade from a S3.

My answer to that was tongue in cheek to his trolling post, or didn't you notice the ;) ?

While I do feel iOS is superior, I acknowledge there is a place for android, I still have my Galaxy S2 and a Nexus 7. They have their place, just below iPhone and iOS.

... do you agree with him that the iPhone 5 is a downgrade from a S3.

I would agree with that.

But I have no desire to own either of them, so it does not matter to me. There are other good phones out there.

The S3 is a bit too big for me, I like 4.3" displays, and the iPhone 5 is too limited (low res screen, no NFC, no microUSB, no card slot, etc).

or do you agree with him that the iPhone 5 is a downgrade from a S3

O - missed the question.

Well I'd never sell an S3 to get an iPhone ... So I think I do see it as a downgrade. Not a bad thing - just difference of opinions. For me, iOS lets Apple down
