Activated via website on iPhone 5 - worked for a while now back to 3G - Pretoria CBD.

Still running Beta 5 of iOS6.1 - will upgrade to 6.1 release version tonight.

Quick feedback:

My "Enable LTE" button wasn't showing up in settings under settings > general >cellular after 6.1 update.

I had to go into settings > about first. Then a carrier upgrade alert popped up. I hit update and now "Enable LTE" is there.

Ah - thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was trying to find out where this magical LTE button was. :D

Even though we don't have LTE in Bloemfontein, now that I can use the LTE APN my download speeds have upped from 3-4 Mbps to over 14Mbps on the phone, but uploads around 2Mbps.

This is one of the reasons why I will not buy an Apple product again. They decide if you are allowed to use some features or not. I can understand from their perspective why they are doing it, but from the customer perspective, it is bad.

You can also look at it from a different customers position. I know my battery life is going to be good

LTE speeds in Midrand are insane!

Please note you must have a contract SIM. If you have a prepaid or topup SIM and you do the upgrade your phone won't work on LTE. You MUST switch off LTE on the iPhone 5 in this case, at least until LTE is available on prepaid and topup. As soon as it's available we'll send a communication out.

Jannie, I don't suppose you have any idea when LTE is going to available for topup and prepaid? Not even a rough idea? Also, when will the Cape Town LTE coverage be extended?

I am in Midrand I got LTE showing on my iPhone, i'm on contract, and i can get max 6.36Mbps.
Thats shocking!! Tried at multiple locations, and still not getting anything close to 20Mbps.

Every operator, especially Vodacom, are extending its LTE coverage continually with multiple sites coming live weekly. So LTE coverage in Cape Town will probably be extended this week, and again next week etc... :)

And based on what has been seen so far I expect that there will be about as many LTE towers in 36 months as there are 3G towers now. It really will come down to the population density and population data requirements in your area that will determine if you have LTE coverage now, in a month, 6 months or 12 months down the line. The only thing that is for certain is that LTE will expand extremely fast, and with the 1800 band that is utilised you will probably find that it will eventually provide better coverage than 3G.
