You not likely to keep your smartphone forever so 2nd hand value might also be a consideration. Here I believe the iPhone wins hands down. That of course if you keep it pouched from day one. A naked 5 is prone to scuffing.
I've seen 1 month old 920's going for around R5.5k-R6k.
With the 920 there's the rebooting issue to consider and with the iPhone 5 the susceptibility to scuffing.

Thank you everyone for the contribution,Im just gonna go for lumnia 920,the association between nokia and microsoft is kinda working for me,I use microsoft apps on my n8 which sync with my pc and that is what im gonna tell myself to feel better,im scared of iphone based on its possible high maintanance,updates,etc and I also heard a rumour that you can't add your old music or copied music to iphone,they want u to buy from iTunes and I don't like buying but downloading for free and copying!

Yes, off-topic, but it was relevant to me as Android phones have to be factored in.
On drop tests, I have dropped my iphone 5 a few times now on tiles and it has not even had the scratch/chip issue. Very glad as I have just been too lazy to get to the shops for a proper cover (its too pretty to cover up!).
On the N9 thing, I thought the hardware was exactly the same as the 920???
As noted for me paying R4700 on the Cell C contract (the R399 one) was a major deciding factor (not factoring data etc bundles which reduces the price more). 920 was just so much more expensive and had a few worries (app store, MS virus possible issues due to them being targeted, ecosystem in early phase, etc).
Give us some feedback on it please, I wish I could buy one!

From cell C - great value contracts can be had for iphone 5 (16GB) @ R399 and Galaxy S3 @R329 (on the iphone they throw in 500Mb even:wtf
Oh and N9 =/= 920 - they are totally different phones Bern
from another post of mine:
Depends what you want, and where you are coming from. I got a Nokia 920 - great phone in some departments. Can't really comment on the lack of apps as never had a phone that used them (old nokia e52 - awesome phone for its time).
The most important things that i like about it is that there is:
- no lag
- free offline maps and driving gps (besides a whole lot of other cool nokia apps)
- great camera (esp low light) (and video)
- people integration app
- live tiles
- (have not used it but full office editing on docs)
Not so great:
- heavy - got used to it but is noticeable heavier than S3 etc (50g to be exact)
- some things take longer to do (no quick tool to switch on and off all connection types/battery usage, had to get an app for quick phone calls - rapdialer)
- not quite sure about battery longevity, versus my expectation - getting 1-2 days depending if i switch off auto-sync for whatsapp/email or not)
- (missing apps) - though coming from a non-app phone this is a non-issue
