I've had my iPhone5 (32gb) since the first week of January now, and initially I was fairly happy with it. Now, however, I have the following major issues:
1. WiFi: The WiFi won't connect to 75% of hotspots. I travelled to Sweden and England recently, and couldn't connect most of the time. My iPad 3 connected fine everywhere. Both iPad and iPhone are running iOS6.1. I've read up a lot on the subject, and tried all of the so-called fixes (hard reset, restore, new iOS, etc.) - no joy. And I can't expect all the hotspots in the world to change to WEP encryption either (one way to solve the problem, apparently)
2. 3G Data: I got back from Europe on Friday, having been away since the end of January. While abroad I used the SMS Roamer package, so no data used. Yesterday I received a notification from Vodacom that I had depleted the 1gb data bundle on my number. WTF? I got home on Friday and haven't really gone anywhere over the weekend. I have uncapped ADSL WiFi at home, and my phone is connected to that. So how the hell did I go through that much data sitting at home?!? Only possibility is that the phone has been using cellular data instead of WiFi, despite being connected. And even then, it would take a lot of activity to use that much over a weekend, especially on the iPhone.
3. LTE: Same as most people. Activated it on my SIM (by phoning Vodacom), then turned it on on the phone. Restarted the phone, and got 'No Service'. Spoke to Vodacom various times, but in the end turned of LTE and restarted the phone. Signal came back, whoohoo. Turned LTE back on this morning, and so far so good. No LTE anywhere that I've been yet, but at least I have signal.
I am reaching the point where I'm wanting to return my handset to Vodacom, and either get a new iPhone or even an Android device. Sadly I've invested so much money in apps, that changing operating systems now isn't really a possibility. All I want is a working phone!
Is anybody else experiencing these symptoms? And what do you reckon I should do? Take it back?
