iphone 6 bending defect

I won't be surprised if Apple tell their customers that the phone is not designed for pockets and they must get a special iPhone case/bag

We'll see the return of those clip-on carrying cases that attach to the waist or belt. They're so sensible yet so naffy, like pocket protectors.

Btw, I use a manbag for my six incher, so Apple (and Sammy) owners with a more modest 5.5 inches and less should easily get away with a clip-on waist pouch. :D

But pocketing a brand new device of this value? Here is a pro tip from a guy that carries way to much tech junk around. Get a man bag...

Considering their obscene profit margins the least they could do is take a little less profit and reinforce the frame. The phone should never bend when sitting down with it in your front pocket.

For me I don't care too much for a thin phone - rather give me a generation older phone thickness, and with the extra 1mm or 2 mm savings in space, put a bigger battery in there.
That alone is enough reason to make them thicker.

I don't see a test of how far you can push a phone before it bends as any sign of day to day build quality.

It's really a bit extreme.

If however a phone can be bent during normal day to day activities then it does become part of day to day build quality.

Will wait for further info and verification before accepting the initial stories as 100% true, but as per those stories, the users were not doing anything unusual with the phones

Yeah, if it bends in normal day to day use it's extremely concerning. Hopefully these reports are overblown.

Good grief, but when did humankind become so stooooopid.

Thin phone/large area + application of force = ??

Not a rant at anything said over here, but over 1000 posts in the iPhone 6+ "my phone is bent" thread on MacRumours. I think the one who started it, drove for 4 hours, attended a wedding, and drove back - with the phone in his side/front pocket of his pants... The moment I read that, my 1st thought was "are you surprised?"

Seriously? Where do you draw the line between expectations vs plain common sense?

I've had my 4S and 5S in my front pocket of my (not-skinny-but-not-relaxed-fit) jeans, and dropped keys etc., to then bend over - and mid-stretch, I'm already thinking about the phone, since I can feel how much pressure is being applied across that pocket in the stretch? Once 'sat' on the phone as I slid into the car, forgetting I had quickly put it into my back-pocket when I was unlocking, not having a free hand - mild panic - fortunately no damage - but if there were, would that be Apple/Samsung/LG etc.'s fault - or my own bloody stupidity for sitting on my phone?

And now you take something exponentially bigger, AND flatter/thinner - and this (suddenly) shouldn't be a problem or concern? Pfffttt.

Watch the note 3 "bending" video.
It is a problem/Design fault.

This is hilarious! So much for that premium build quality... :D

How is a thicker, plastic phone relevant? Unless you are suggesting that Apple should have made the iPhone thicker, and out of plastic?

I'm suggesting they should have done proper QC and not ignored an obvious design flaw.

Because of a few videos and posts, there's a design flaw? Do you not in any way feel you're jumping the gun a bit here?

Not at all.

I am suggesting that Apple jumped the gun by rushing the build and release without checking if the device can handle every day use.

I am part of QC for regalia.
Shoulder flashes as an example, 1000 times "seatbelt" on and off before it is approved for use/passes SABS.
Police badges, no phone would survive the torture they get put through and I have to make sure they can handle it.
Apple likely knew about this issue but decided to ignore it as they would miss deadline, chances are they have already fixed it in production or are frantically looking for a way to do so.

Based on a few videos and posts? Do you not feel that your suggestion lacks a solid foundation? It seems you're going on a whim.

No, undoubtedly he is an expert in electronics manufacturing and has used and disassembled and iPhone 6 Plus to properly evaluate its build quality.

No need to, the "few" video's are enough to show me that they missed an obvious flaw.
I am not an electronics manufacturer, I am a metal products manufacturer and designer.
