iPhone 6 Plus Vodacom contract prices

The phone is expensive, why would anyone think it would be cheap with a service provider.

For *most* people 16G is more than enough. WHat do they store on their phones that takes up room?
Photos is the obvious one and they synch off to iCloud...

Sure if you are the sort to watch a lot if video then you need more
Most?

Take a few pics at highest resolution and few 1080p videos, then see how fast 16GB fills up.

Pathetic.

Apps and games

And updates which are 1 gig but require 4 gigs of free space... I could survive on 16gb but its a struggle, 32gb was my sweet spot.

16GB is nothing, how much of that is allocated to the OS? This has nothing to do with it being affordable, it's just not good value for my money.

Storage requirements all depend on the user. Both my last two phones (Android) have been 16GB models and never had issues with too little space. I don't use a lot of apps and all my media is in the cloud.

I have a 32GB iPad and there is a tonne of free space still on it.

I've ordered mine...

6+ 64gb Smart M - 120 minutes, 300sms, 300mb = R749
6 64gb Smart M - 120 minutes, 300sms, 300mb = R649

Plan on selling either the 6 or +.

If I were to get around R10k for the phone would that not negate the cost of the monthly contract?

IE (R749x24)-R11 000/24 = R290.66 per month
(R649x24)-R10 000/24 = R232.33 per month

But aren't you paying for 2 phones?

So then you'll be paying off a contract you're not actually using?

No. Both contracts are currently active and both are due for upgrading. I can choose to take the new handsets being offered, keep and use them or sell them. If I choose to sell them the net cost of those contracts over 24 months drops accordingly. Either way I'm using the data, smses and minutes on the 2 numbers (1 is the wife's and 1 is mine).

Ah, okay.

Wife has no say in this? :p

Why not just renew the contract (only the sim, don't take phone)? Works out way cheaper. I'm doing it this year.

Mmmm, that's an option.

In March this year one contract expired and I wanted to downgrade to a sim only package but if I did that, it would be effective for 24 months and I wanted the option to upgrade the handset in the near future.

But checking the current sim only Smart M offer, it's going for R299 and they've doubled the benefits IE 240 minutes, 600sms, 600mb!!! The Smart M including handset is 120 minutes, 300sms, 300mb!! @ R649!

EDIT: As I said, I intend selling one handset and should be able to get R10k for it which brings the sim only and R649 package within similar costs but not now with double the benefits on the sim only offer.
