Firstly it's very far from 4K.

Secondly we are at the point where I'm certain a number of testers would fail blind testing selectice photos from mobile devices compared to DSLR.

Interesting times.

I agree with you 100% but I think that is due to the fact that a DSLR captures 'naked' photos where as smartphones lately auto enhance and adjust many things before saving the picture that in return do give an aesthetically more beautiful picture.

But from a technical point of view it will not give you a better picture. I stand by my earlier point.

I would just like to add that the iPhone - hence its larger sensor - has a big low light advantage. That is one aspect where they have always shined.

Yeah for sure.

DSLR still gives you hundreds of on camera options that make certain photos impossible to take with a phone.

But I just mean you get some really amazing quality shots from phones these days in the correct conditions that I would easily have believed were taken with DSLR.

The old saying of the best camera is the one you have with you is now more true than ever.

You can't compare a DSLR to a cellular camera. They're light-years apart. It's lime comparing a tablet to a high end desktop.

Enlighten me.

OFC you get different sensor sizes and that, but at the end of the day resolution counts.

Better lens quality (and sensors, software, etc.) > megapixels.

There is only one semi sensible reason to having larger than 5 - 8MP photos on a phone, and that's if one's a super cropper. The result will be undesirable though, unless the quality optics are there.

Those who lack photographic knowledge are unfortunately being led by marketing gimmick. Think dynamic contrast ratios and G2G response times. Inflating numbers to excite the masses and compete among the brands under the Android umbrella.

It kills the 5S, but what about other phones?

Just measuring by still shots, the 1520 still has a better camera than the 6. It's the other features that nobody else right now is able to match - focus pixels, 240fps slo-mo, timelapse, the quality of its pano mode, and so on.

Not quite, you are excluding taxes and profit margins.

So Apple doesn't make a profit? Or do you think retailers pay that price?

How about UK prices then? R9800 to R14360 which includes their 20% VAT.

No doubt, iOS 8 consumes a bit more space than iOS 7. Those slo-mo videos are gonna chow storage. Heck I wish Apple had just made the 32gb the default.

64GB for the price of 32GB is almost as good ;).

So do I. They're basically penalizing you for choosing the lowest pricing tier, like economy class seating on a plane.
