iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

A change to the iPhone’s Home button was long-rumored, but when Phil Schiller confirmed the existence of the iPhone 7’s solid state Home button, that’s when you knew it was for real.

The iPhone 7 isn’t Apple’s first foray into this area, as the MacBook line has taken a similar approach with its trackpad. But the iPhone is way more popular than the Mac and more people own and use iPhones when compared to the Mac.

It’s common knowledge that the majority of Apple’s profits are generated by the iPhone, so a fundamental change to the device’s primary hardware input method wasn’t something for Apple hardware engineers to take lightly.

The good news is that, despite initial criticism, the iPhone 7 Home button is actually quite good once you get used to it. While it does have a few downsides, the change has produced several new positive side effects as well.

To attempt to bring this back to being about the new iPhones :) I see you can now "Pre-Order" your contract upgrade to the iPhone 7 directly on Vodacom's site. I've already done it on the myistore site but I never got an email or anything. Did anyone else get an email confirming your order? I want to trade my old phone in so don't really want to do the upgrade at a Vodacom store. *confused*

Have my 7 now for 3 days. Comming from a 6s not that major. My main reason for upgrade was camera ( which is great) and waterproof( i run, cycle etc and now no less bger need a plastic sealed bag when i run, cycle or commute). The rest i don't really notice.

Congrats. From what I've read, you will only really notice the speed difference when using a app that requires intensive processing

So Apple can copy stuff but when someone else has something that looks similar they are bad?

GTFO.

No headphone jack, same shape as iPhone 6 and 6S.

The OS is the same, the apps are the same. Time to be honest with yourself here, this **** is getting boring 9 years down the line.

Looks like google liked the design

I never said that the Pixel looks like the iPhone? Is every white phone now an Apple copy?

Besides, if they really wanted to copy Apple they would have put a 720p screen in it.

Has anybody preordered through iStore with previous launches? Do they ship for delivery on launch day or only ship on launch day? I've tried to clarify with them but they're intent on telling me they will ship when stock is available on launch.

hahahaha ship on launch day? You must think you're in a country with proper Apple support :) No, dear friend - you have to GO to the store to get it. and even though you pre-order there is a time period whereby the phone will be given out if not taken. So yes, prepare to queue...

I think your mistaken, cash purchases are sent out via their online store.

If they ship, no way it will be before launch day, this is South Africa. A friend in NZ had his 7 plus delivered something like 9:30 AM on launch day and Apple only shipped it at 6 that morning.

The iPhone has always been known for having one of the best smartphone cameras you can get. In fact, each year many pro photographers test iPhone’s against their latest equipment to see how much better they’re getting.

So, how does the quality of the iPhone 7 camera compare to a high-end Leica rangefinder? According to the well respected Japanese street photographer, Shin Noguchi, pretty darn good.

In the image below, the left half was taken with an iPhone 7, while the right side was taken with a Leica M9-P with a Leica Summicron lens, a package that costs over $9,000 to own.
