iPhone 8 release: Apple to hold launch event on September 12, reports say

Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 will be unveiled at an event on September 12, according to leaked information from a French phone carrier.

Tim Cook is expected to unveil three phones at the September event, including the iPhone 8 and an upgrade to Apple's current offering, to be called the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus.

Tradition dictates the three phones will go on sale a week after their announcement, with the most likely date being Friday September 22, according to French website Mac4Ever.

Mmmmmm, so there will be 3 methods of unlock?

1. Passcode
2. 3D face recognition
3. Finger print sensor

I really really hope so, discontinuing the finger print sensor will suck. A lot of rumours suggest they will, but it doesn't make sense to me since they introduced them in the Macbooks as well at the end of last year.
Finger print sensor in the Apple logo will be very cool since it's something which is already there anyway, plus if they slightly move it, it falls right under a finger.

SE might wait for early next year, I think the original launch was a March one.

Alining them all will be nice though. If there's a update to the SE it won't be much though so probably not worth leaking.
Same design and internals as the current 7 but only smaller.

Call the new iPhone range
IPhone S (where is is for small replacing SE)
IPhone (rather than iPhone 7s)
iPhone Plus (rather than 7s plus)
iPhone Pro (not 8)

WSJ: Apple to unveil iPhone 8 & Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE on September 12

Apple is going to announce the highly anticipated tenth anniversary iPhone, tentatively named “iPhone 8,” along with Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE on Tuesday, September 12, with a media event scheduled to take place at its new headquarters, dubbed Apple Park.

The company may have also told select carriers to prepare inventory and marketing plans ahead of the September 12 event. According to the Wall Street Journal on Monday, the Cupertino technology giant is aiming to use a 1,000-seat underground auditorium, called Steve Jobs Theater in honor of its late co-founder, to announce the new products.

“That headquarters, however, isn’t yet finished, and its construction timetable could affect the timing or location of the event,” sources said.

The technology giant is widely expected to unveil three new iPhones: the iterative S-updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus series along with a “showcase iPhone” with an edge-to-edge OLED panel, 3D sensors and other features to mark the product’s 10th anniversary.

It’s unclear if the OLED iPhone will be pre-announced and available later or if customers will be able to pre-order it along with the iPhone 7s/Plus devices from day one.

“Apple has increased production in recent weeks of the new, showcase iPhone and is poised to expand manufacturing from one plant in China to others,” adds the report.

The expansion should bode well for Apple’s efforts to meet iPhone 8 sales demand during the crucial holiday shopping season.

Aside from the new iPhones, Apple is also expected to announce a new Apple Watch model with an LTE cellular chip that allows it to pull data directly from wireless services. The newspaper makes no mention of the possibility of a fifth-generation Apple TV with 4K video support being debuted at the event.

Apple has yet to send out the invites for the September 12 press conference. Stay tuned as we’ll be making sure to give you a heads-up once the media event is official.

Looking forward to the release and confirming what the 8 has to offer.Pricing by our networks might prove to be an obstacle for me acquiring one though.Looks like this is going to be one very expensive phone.

SE might wait for early next year, I think the original launch was a March one.

Yea lets hope. Thankfully my 6s is still good for a while. But the SE form factor with 7/7s internals is the dream

I see they now say the iPhone Pro as I like to call it will come in 128, 256 and 512 GB versions and will be priced between $999 and $1299.
