Watching youtube unboxing videos. What an underwhelming phone iPhone X is. It’t the iPhone 8 (which is the 7) with less bezels and no home button running iOS 11 (which sucks).

Apple releases a phone and the most talked about feature is animojis. Seriously. Who buys a phone for that!

Its so underwhelming the reviewers have nothing to show. They just keep swiping down the control center and notification center, scroll through the icons to the right and left, and show how to access multitasking. And then animojis.

Buy for animojis. Less bezels and face i.d. are not a selling point other phones have had that for years.

That’s iPhone X!

Let me guess, you’re just here for the cake aren’t you?

Hmm,

FaceID is the big thing. Who else has had this? No-one. Samsung has had something that could unlock with image before yes, but that isn't the same thing at all. It is the same thing as saying look Android phones has had more than 6 cores in its CPU since 2015 when we all know it is also not the same thing. Also all of the other things has all been done with the iPhone 8.

No one? Are you referring to the name FaceID or the technology behind which is just unlocking a device using your face, which Samsung has on galaxy s8 and I'm sure on previous models.

In fact it doesn't matter who has it or doesn't or who had it first.. FaceID or whatever they choose to call a feature of unlocking a phone cannot be THE selling point of a R20 000+ phone. heck even if it used pin / passcode the discussion about how a phone is unlocked is not more important than the capabilities of the phone when you use it.. which we all have already seen on iPhone 8 or any other previous model updated with the latest software.

All I have seen is they just scroll on the control center and play on animojis and show multitasking windows, like really!:erm:

So what you are saying is you are unimpressed with the videos you have seen, as opposed to unimpressed with the device itself.

Your statement regarding FaceID and the S8 show you are ignorant of what FaceID is and why it is a big deal. I recommend reading up on it. The reason it is being touted as a big deal is a little more complicated but here are some of the talking points.

FaceID (an actual big deal when you understand what and how)
Bezelless screen, but large and beautiful (best for iPhone for sure)
Fastest Mobile processor ever, by a very large margin
Better battery life
Best iPhone camera to date
New iOS features (many, read up)

It is not a life-changing phone or massively revolutionary by any means. But it DOES have some very good things going for it.

FFS you are still answering trolls who are waiting for "life changing" flagships in 2017! If you ask em what's the difference between Note 8 and Note 7(leave the explosion out of the topic) they will tell the exact same nonsense "specs bump", "better camera", "new infinite" display nothing more! Same thing happening with iPhone X just add a few more things like Face ID 3D cam etc

phones are just evolving these years no "revolutions". Any troll trying to squeeze juice of this "what's new" shiet just ignore

At the end of the day FaceID is used to unlcock a locked phone irrespective of how advanced the technology is. No one buys a phone because of it's sophisticated unlcock feature hence I am saying this can't be a selling point.

Some people don't even feel the need to lock their phones. So what is the selling point there other than imojis.

Let's not even talk even talk about performance. I don't know of any phone released in 2017 that costs over R20 000 which has performance issues. Performance shouldn't even a question!

Also I wouldn't compare iOS with android when it comes to performance. It's night and day for me.

Android is very feature rich and iOS is very flat badic and non customisable. I can't even put an icon where I want. It would be a surprise if it didn't 'outperform'

Yes, on iPhone! Just less bezels..

Which is 7 = 8 (plus glass) = 10 (less bezels)

So A11 bionic chip, Super retina HD display, 94 DxOMark camera rating, FaceID, 4k @ 120fps, true depth front facing camera, wireless charging... just marketing gimmicks?

Nope. Watch the Tech Radar review. They confirm it as well.

“Simply no space”

The entire cut out thing was a retarded compromise.

Should have just chopped the 2mm off the top and flat lined it.

I am a troll because I am having a discussing on a discussion forum with a forum member that you don't agree with?

It's fools like you that jump into calling people trolls as soon as things are not going the way they want!

I have an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11 and a fool like you thinks I am a troll if I don't see iPhone X as a big step forward. Some people act as if a person likes android over an iPhone than it's because they are prohibited for buying the damn thing. I could easily buy the bloody thing if I wanted.. I'm having a discussion here, you don't have to entertain me.

In fact I should not be entertaining your lame ass.. so ignore my posts I will do the same to yours.
If you were smart you could have just replied and left the 'troll' accusations out of it you would have seemed more mature than you coming out now.

Depends from user to user.. I have 4 phones as I speak - surely I don't need to have them locked depending what I use them for.. it's not that deep.. I am actually on the right forum as I have an iPhone.

Your point just lost validity!

Samsung doesn't have this technology. Samsung has static image unlock - you can literally unlock the phone with a picture. When I say FaceID I don't just mean the unlocking part - but the technology powering it. Sure animojis doesn't look like much, but it is basically just a demo of what it can be used for. Other developers can do much more with it. Think of it like a Kinect (which sadly is dead on the console now) inside your phone.

At the end of the day FaceID is used to unlcock a locked phone irrespective of how advanced the technology is. No one buys a phone because of it's sophisticated unlcock feature hence I am saying this can't be a selling point.

As I said previously, FaceID might just be to unlock the phone - but the technology powering it can be used in games etc - if you have a quizzical look on your face siri can pop up a help file etc.

On performance - the S8 (which is the first Samsung that got a better cpu score than the iPhone 6S (3 generations ago now)) has performance issues and it cost a lot as well. So performance is an issue still. And by night and day I assume you are referencing the way android keeps the whole memory space of the app alive for multitasking that can impede the in focus app which means iOS has better performance.

The stupid cut out in the front is the most hideous aspect of the iPhone X though I wouldn't write off Apple over that as the IPhone X1 would probably fix that issue.

It's lame to say the least.... but you dare say that lest people call you a troll!

"…When Face ID did fail for me, it was almost always a function of one of two things: I wasn’t looking at the phone when it made the attempt (I have attention detection toggled on) or it was at too steep an angle and couldn’t see my whole face. If it was pointed at me and I was looking, it opened. There were definitely a couple of failed tries, but no more than I’ve seen with a Touch ID finger placement not being good enough. A second swipe/try typically opened it."

"Landscape mode on the iPhone X is generally pretty messy: the notch goes from being a somewhat forgettable element in the top status bar to a giant interruption on the side of the screen, and I haven’t seen any apps really solve for it yet. And the home bar at the bottom of the screen often sits over the top of content, forever reminding you that you can swipe to go home and exit the chaos of landscape mode forever."

I will check it out on my samsung.. this I did not realise, about the static image unlock!
