Samsung doesn't have this technology. Samsung has static image unlock - you can literally unlock the phone with a picture. When I say FaceID I don't just mean the unlocking part - but the technology powering it. Sure animojis doesn't look like much, but it is basically just a demo of what it can be used for. Other developers can do much more with it. Think of it like a Kinect (which sadly is dead on the console now) inside your phone.

As I said previously, FaceID might just be to unlock the phone - but the technology powering it can be used in games etc - if you have a quizzical look on your face siri can pop up a help file etc.

On performance - the S8 (which is the first Samsung that got a better cpu score than the iPhone 6S (3 generations ago now)) has performance issues and it cost a lot as well. So performance is an issue still. And by night and day I assume you are referencing the way android keeps the whole memory space of the app alive for multitasking that can impede the in focus app which means iOS has better performance.

Will be interesting to see the phone live.. in all fairness I am looking forward to the S.A. launch... to go and play around with the phone.

I am a troll because I am having a discussing on a discussion forum with a forum member that you don't agree with?

It's fools like you that jump into calling people trolls as soon as things are not going the way they want!

I have an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11 and a fool like you thinks I am a troll if I don't see iPhone X as a big step forward. Some people act as if a person likes android over an iPhone than it's because they are prohibited for buying the damn thing. I could easily buy the bloody thing if I wanted.. I'm having a discussion here, you don't have to entertain me.

In fact I should not be entertaining your lame ass.. so ignore my posts I will do the same to yours.
If you were smart you could have just replied and left the 'troll' accusations out of it you would have seemed more mature than you coming out now.

People don't call you a troll because they don't agree with you. If you prefer a different phone then that is good for you. Like you said you got your Note 8, but the only thread that you have posted in so far is this one dissing the iPhone.

Depends from user to user.. I have 4 phones as I speak - surely I don't need to have them locked depending what I use them for.. it's not that deep.. I am actually on the right forum as I have an iPhone.

Your point just lost validity!

yes it does depend from user to user. Apple does tend to create their products for specific market segments - you might not be in one of those market segments, but chose to get one anyway. The iPhone isn't for tinkering, you do have to fit into it's mold and can't shape it dramatically to fit your preferences. For a lot of people that is okay. I suspect that that isn't the case for you.

I get you.. but I don't see why people are throwing their toys over this.. it's a phone by apple.. are they affiliated somehow with apple? Why was that guy so angry? If he likes the phone and the next person does not.. what is it to him that he feels the need to call me a troll?

When Note 8 was released I was not around to discuss on the forums.. this phone is about to be released that's why I am here..

The issue, and reason you've been labelled troll, is that your "arguments" are simply criticisms not backed up by fact, logic or research. Merely criticisms. If you put a little more thought into your arguments you would get a lot further.

If you added to that the ability to realise an iPhone is not an Android device, that they differ, have different target audiences, price ranges and offer different user experiences, you would find less reason to fight and more reason to applaud the good job Apple have done. It isn't perfect, but much like the Note 8, S8+, Mate 10 - it's damned nice.

Nice that you can switch the eye verification off - increases 'usability' at the cost of lowering the overall 'security' (also to cater for blind or sight impaired people)

Yeah I don't even know what they are doing here. We don't go trolling their subs regarding all their system crashes and poor plastic designs :p

Honestly, whilst trying to sound clever you're just making yourself seem infantile. If you want to discuss, discuss but this incessant trolling will only wind you up in the soup.

Wonder if we will see a November launch in S.A.
Saw it advertised at iStore vodaworld that it's coming November..
That seems soon given how long it normally takes for iPhone to come to S.A.

iPhone 8 & iPhone X Thread

The glass chassis feels great. Lovely change from the *American voice-on* aluminum.

That does seem a bit quick, but we didn't wait to long for the iPhone 8 though.

Was considering it just for the wireless charging but will wait till the Airpower comes out. Last time I upgraded for this was for the Samsung Galaxy S3, but Samsung didn't sell the wireless charger back then in SA. Its too bad that I have a series 2 watch. Not going to get a watch just for that. My phone on the other hand is already passed upgrade, but my 6S is still serving me well. I remember when my phone used to feel dated after a year of having it. I don't feel like that just yet. Will see how I feel when the X arrives.

It’s currently on “ships in 5-6 weeks” in the USA and UK and you think there’ll be stock in SA in 4 weeks?

Just as an FYI - the Samsung S8 was able to be unlocked with a photo of the owner of the phone. The FaceID is a much smart tech, that even a 3D printed face could not fool (According to Tim, anyway)

It isn't completely new - Windows Hello on the Surface and Kinect have been secure face logins for a while, also with two cameras.

At the end of the day these are still just phones that cost 10-20k. Let people buy what they want and let them be.
