Not bad if true. My 7 is doing just fine though.

I skipped the 7, and last month got a really good offer for my 6sPlus so I'm currently using a 6 and watching the rumours to see whether a 7S/8 will be wothwhile in September.

Yeah I've got a 6s for work. Can't say I notice any real functionality diff between the two.

Honestly as of late cellphones just haven't been moving forward. The 2x zoom on the 7+ is very snazzy but that's about the only real feature I can think of that changed anything for me.

Saw something yesterday about the 8 possibly being delayed to next year, and from what I understand it's still not clear whether there will be a 7S and a separate 8/Edition/X/whatever.

I'm in a bit of an odd spot re. requirements - I want to get the phone with the best camera (or at least among the best), which at present is the iPhone/Google Pixel/Samsung S8. But if I go Android I'm not interested in skinned devices, which basically rules out anything except OnePlus or Google Pixel. I'm also looking for a smaller form factor (so Pixel/iPhone size).

And then I also want the bezel-less display. Unfortunately it seems the regular Google Pixel 2 (whatever they're going to call it) will still have the big bezels (possibly for front-facing speakers, which I don't care about), with the Pixel XL 2 having the small bezels.

So that's why I'm very interested in the next iPhone, if they deliver on the bezel-less design. And really hoping it's the one that gets announced/released next month, and not just another iteration of the 6/6S/7's design.

Not a fan of potential "fakes" but

There are rumours that Samsung Display are producing 2 different size OLED screens for Apple, 5.8" and 6", with some people saying the 6" line has a lower yield and possibly being stockpiled for another device early next year.

Here's one report where the 2 sizes are talked about.

Samsung Display partially produces flexible OLED panels along with rigid OLED panels at its A2 line. However it only produces panels for iPhones at A3 line as technologies that Apple requested are different as the ones that are applied to A2 line.

If Samsung Display operates production lines for Apple at an operation rate of 100% with 100% yield, it is able to produce about 124 million 6-inch panels and 130 million 5.8-inch panels respectively in single year.

However it is heard that yield for panels that Apple requested is low due to high degree of technical difficulty. Industries believe that yields for Samsung Electronics’ panels and Apple’s panel are at least 80% and about 60% respectively.
If Samsung Display operates its lines at an operation rate of 100% with 60% yield, it is able to produce about 75 million 6-inch panels and 79 million 5.8-inch panels respectively. Considering the fact that yearly sales volume of iPhones is about 200 million and that production capacity of LG Display’s E6 line, which is going to be operated starting from second quarter of 2018, is only about 15,000 panels per month, it seems unlikely that entire 2018 iPhone series will have OLED panels.

In order to increase production capacity of 6th generation flexible OLED, Samsung Display is currently thinking about making additional investments into a new plant called A5 (tentative name). L7-1 line, which is converted from LCD to 6th generation flexible OLED, is currently being built to have production capacity of 30,000 to 45,000 panels per month. It is going to be operated starting from fourth quarter of this year.

The bezel-less design makes the display size change difficult to gauge. I'd want to know what the body size comparison and display size comparison is.

Another leak from evleaks.

Some 7S/7S Plus details leaking, same size and 7 and 7 Plus, but possibly with glass back like the iPhone 4S.

TechnoBuffalo has acquired exclusive CAD images of the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus through a source close to the manufacturing process that reveals the exact build and key features the phones will come with.

The CAD images show a very familiar iPhone design. Nearly every detail is in the exact same place—the iPhone 7S Plus has the dual camera, the 7S has a single lens camera and nothing has changed with the button layout.

The haptic home button is at the bottom, volume buttons and mute toggle are on the left and the power button is on the right. Even the sensors are in the same place. The iPhone 7 has the same two sensors at the top of the display, so the 7s and 7s Plus will also stick with same LCD panels Apple has been using since 2014.

The circle at the center of both back images is where the Apple logo will be and the rectangle at the bottom is where the legal wording will be placed.

We’ve heard Apple was planning on putting a glass back on the 7S, just like it is on the iPhone 8, and the CAD images confirm exactly that. A metal frame will fuse the front and glass panels for a design that will be very reminiscent of the iPhone 4.

The rumours all say there will be 3 models, 7s, 7sPlus and a special edition to be called 8, X or Edition.
Eish, I hate the complexity of naming conventions.

Never understood the s edition either, I mean why not just bring the s as standard or plus.

Anyway.

My guess, having followed Apple from the outside since 2006, I am pretty sure they will scrape the name entirely, redefine what a cellphone is and simply call it IPhone from here on going forward.

iPhone 2017, iPhone 2018 etc wouldn't be a terrible idea.
