Is that something I'd want to do? Does it not impact warranty?
If you feel your options are being limited then you might want to do it.

As for the warranty - I dont know - however you can easily restore the phone to its original state - which something you'd want to do before you ever sent it in anyway.

Hi All,
[*]Need to buy apps/songs in Dollars from the states
[*]Can't install 3rd party apps, unless bought though iStore
[*]dependency of iTunes is real issue for me
[*]bad battery life
[/LIST]
One of the major advantages of the iPhone is the excellent app store. There is nothing comparable on any other platform, the apps are all lower quity and usy much more expensive. iTunes is just a music management and syncing program and it's actually quite good in my opinion. It did annoy me at first but now I like it. What do t you like about it?

If you really wanna avoid it you can jailbreak and do everything manually. Quite hackerish though.

The iPhones battery life is impressive for such a thin, bright and versatile device. It's bad when playing lots of games especially but under regular usage like phoning, emailing and browsing the web it's very good.

Jailbreaking takes 15 secs (exactly) and then it is done. Easily undone. Allows for sooooo much more. On top of getting ALL apps for free.

Not according to your post here:

Ok,
so I was updating now to 3.1.2 in iTunes so I could do a re-jb/ul. But my PC froze for 10mins and then iTunes just closed. Now when I connect my iPhone it says cant finish restore because sim is invalid(no sim- if I take it out).

What can I do? It does not let me do anything. Tried google but cant find a good phrase to search. Dunno if it is even possible to take out of recovery mode.

Please help
Thanks

EDIT: Just got it right now. After 3X firmware downloads, 5 restores and 2 blackra1n's.... It is finally working

Took you from 20:30 till after 00:00 :p

lol - nice catch.

I've done the jailbreaking and it was a quick process.

The phone was however more responsive before the jailbreaking which is why I usually suggest to friends that they try the phone as is for a few days and figure out what they're lacking.

That was because of a program I had installed called 'PKGBackup' which was causing me the errors. Nice of you NOT including that in your 'quote'

Yeah, I think I'll go to Vodaworld. Maybe, compare the HTC Hero, iPhone and Nokia and then pick one.

And if it is the iPhone, I'll use it "as is: and the decide whether I want to jailbreak it.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. Hence the :p smiley.

But to be fair, I didn't alter that quote, it made no mention of other apps.

Bad battery life is relative. I use my phone alot throughout the day, but I code, so charging it at work is a breeze. The phone does charge VERY fast. You can go from 25% to full charge in just over an hour. If you use the phone less = obviously the battery lasts longer.

Overall I found that the battery life was shorter than my BlackJack BUT, I used ALOT more functions concurrently, wifi, games, video, online, media. It will drain any device's battery faster.

If you want your iPhone to multi task, I suggest jailbreaking. Especially when running an app and then you recieve a phone call.

Fair enough. Like I mentioned it is relative according to how you use your phone, but yes, I found it to be the only weak link in the system. That, and having a 1st world phone in a 3rd world country where you pay out of your ass for everything ie data and all.
