iPhone does not send or receive SMSes

Long story!

I gave my old iPhone to my child.

Because the phone belonged to me (iCloud address, etc). it seems that somehow the two phones (my old phone the childs is using and my current newer phone) are somehow linked via the iCloud info.

She has a different SIM with a different number.

Can the link be the reason why she is unable to send/receive SMSes?

There's something called "Message Centre Number", check somewhere in Message settings, could be that the number is not set.
