Iphone: Get one now or wait for new one?

I've just noticed an MWeb advertisment in the newspaper:
Its offering an iPhone 3G 8GB on “Business Call” for R185 per month, subject to signing a 24month contract with no included minutes. But this works out at the iPhone costing R4440.00 (R185 x24months).

The calculation is not that straightforward, as some of the Business Call package rates are somewhat cheaper than those of some of the other packages.

I have a question to iphone owners;

Opera mini is a life saver for browsing the web in queues, waiting rooms etc or to just quickly check mail or facebook. The clunky interface is offset by the fact that when loading a page with just text (i.e with pictures off), the average page size is 5 -15kb.
That means i browse for an hour sometimes and use around half an mb of data.

Is there anything like this on the iphone?
Whether its through the app store or via cydia or installer.
I usually jut need t read text, and the mobile view is more than adequate for this, no panning or zooming, just scrolling up and down.

I'd really like to know if there's perhaps an app or even a version of opera mini that handles web pages the same way..

thanks

Sadly the answer is no. In fact Opera did make a version of Opera Mini for the iPhone, but the AppStore rejected it since it 'competes' directly with the pre-installed Safari browser [Link]. It’s all part of Apple’s proprietary nature, and also the main reason I’ll never buy an i’Product’. Yes sure they make good quality products I never doubt that. But why do I have to use iTunes as my music player just to sync my collection to phone/mp3 player, what’s wrong with my player that I’ve been using for years and setup as I like and works with any other player? Open standards is where things are heading but sadly Apple remains in their greedy bubble. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not an iHater I do understand that it still has great potential for many people, especially if you like Conformity, but it’s not for me.

To answer my own question, I installed something called ImaSafari through Cydia.
Great little prog that gives you a setting to not load pics in safari.
has saved me a ton of bandwidth when I didn't need pics. Works great.
