Has anyone with a Telkom freeme contract (port from another sp) got their iMessage on their number activated successfully ?

Yeah, it takes a while but it eventually happens. Sucks when you have to pay for all the sms messages but I'm guessing your contract would cover those?

It the pesky sms request that goes from your handset to the Apple servers. I had a similar problem on a MTN package that has no airtime value. A lot of data, 50gb, a lot of free smses to local numbers, 200, a lot of talk minutes mtn to mtn, 10 000!!! But no airtime! I loaded R5 airtime and boom, activated!

Yeah the contract does have an SMS bundle attached to it (50 a day) but wether that is international I doubt it. Also my contract does have a block on it of R1 over my contract value. And based on both your posts could be the reason why that SMS won't go out ... I'm going to try and raise the limit and see if this solves it

Or load R10 airtime from your bank to the sim

Yes, the day I ported to Telkom Freeme Family I had no issues with iMessages.
You’ll have to contact them. Alternatively, switch phone off and on if you haven’t tried it already.

I'm having the exact same problem! I have been battling for over two weeks and Telkom can't seem to assist. They didn't even know how to use my phone. I don't know what to do, I have an open contract and I can send international sms'.

I recently ported to Telkom and I can’t seem to activate iMessage and FaceTime because their FAQs says “Customers who have ported in to Telkom from another network can send international SMS's but they are not yet able to receive them”
How do I go on about this?

I had a issue after changing phones, iMessage would not activate for about a week.
I tried every suggestion on the net. Nothing worked.

Then out of no where i get a airtime low message.

All the attempts i had made to active imessage started processing and it ended up activating after consuming about R50 airtime from sending out repeated international sms’s in the background.

Don’t bother calling in. They clueless , will tell you to use your email address.

“iMessage does not work with your number”

So I just have to wait and eventually it will activate by it self
Doubt it will automatically activate itself but maybe.... Maybe you need to activate roaming on your account, activate iMessage and then deactivate roaming...

EDIT: The issue is the activation request sms is sent to an international Apple server. Your current bundles don't allow for overseas messaging... have you got family or friends living abroad you can try sms?

Use the TelkomSA Menu app: On your phone menu in the list of apps open an app called 'TelkomSA Menu', click 'International Roaming', then select 'Via Telkom' - if the app responds with "The handset is already using the selected mode" then you must click 'Via Partners' and restart the phone.
