In truth, it's of poor quality (made in numerous Chinese sweat shops) to say the least. However, Apple have succeeded in being able to present the device as a smart must have!

I wouldn't go that far - while it's made out of the same components as the other phones, manufactured by the same companies, it's still pretty well made. Just because it's made in China doesn't mean it's rubbish. FoxConn still has to meet Apple's set quality control standards, just as the Chinese Pegatron has to meet Nokia's quality standards, and BMW South Africa has to meet BMW Germany Head Office's standards. South African made BMWs aren't inferior because of where they're made in the world.

I don't think Apple's quality is any better than, say, Nokia Lumia or (high-end) Samsung's, but then again it's not worse.

This is not exactly surprising. We have a small amount of wealthy and upper-middle income people in the country. I would have thought they would have reached saturation a while ago

I think it has more to do with the fact that Apple doesn't have a full presence in SA and that the SA iTunes Store sucks.

Sadly, as an independent cellular outlet we have to work on these horrid things!

While they (Apple) do use similar components to other makes, the way they are put together by Apple is a 'garden shed' build quality.

The build quality of Apple is below that of BlackBerry and Nokia! Samsung LG & Sony win hands down on build quality. The Samsung attention to quality is the reason why 'liquid damaged' Samsung handsets have a high recovery rate against other handsets.

Apple's iPhone 4 with its inferior antenna design made Apple a laughing stock, made worse by the late Steve Jobs trying to BS everyone that all other smartphones suffer with bad antennas...

I believe buying an Apple product is not worth it. You can get superior performance pc's and tablets for far less than what a similar Apple device costs. But then again, Apple products looks and feels good.

Apple dominate a certain market segment, and don't even operate in lower income segments. That is undeniable and supported by data.
That doesn't mean all people in higher income groups use Apple products or that all people in lower income groups don't use Apple products.

In the past you could only get iPhones from Vodacom now all networks offer them

The figures on this article are only from Vodacom and they are struggling to be any good lately. They actual told me to go to another network without penalty instead of fixing a signal issue at my house.

Vodacom is also the most expensive when it comes to getting the iPhone

I would not be surprised that the iPhone numbers picked up on another network like Cell C and MTN.

I think their iPad Air and MacBook are the best. They are also more expensive. I have owned many notebook/laptops. Since buying a MacBook, chances are slim I will ever buy a laptop from someone else. I agree that there isn't much of a difference between phones, but I still like my iPhone 5s and have no regrets buying it. I have only been using Apple products since I came to the UK, 6 years ago. Before that I would get my phone from a different manufacturer every time. I have owned Samsung, Nokia, Siemens, HTC. Every time my iphone contract comes up for renewal, I look at what the others manufacturers have. Then decide to go with the latest iphone, because I don't see a reason to change. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I'm now pretty deep into the Apple ecosystem. Which is fine as long as it works for me. I own an HTC and a Samung 4, which I use for Android work, so I have an idea of what is out there other than Apple.

That is not all all what I said...and I suspect you know that, as you edited out the bit that followed where I helped explain it to you.

What I said is that the upper end of the market is saturated, and now is mainly getting renewals of iPhones rather than new clients. And this is the market segment that Apple operates in.
The lower end of the market is far from saturation, so there you will see upgrades as well as new clients to various manufacturers

The tally will go up again with the release of a new device by Apple but the long term dominance of Android can not be discounted. Personally I'm a Windows Phone guy (although I run a iPhone currently). The fact is that Google doesn't manufacture phones and the biggest name aka Samsung is bringing out its Android killer Tizen imminently (discounting delays) and this will change the landscape significantly.

Ultimately Apple is the only manufacturer currently flogging a device-specific universal-across-range operating system. OS is less significant than what manufacturers do with it. Low-level functions will always be device-specific and Android is more specification than boilerplate.

I think the Sheep are seeing that most other people are going for the S5 and so they are jumping ship. Expect a drastic jump in Windows Phone when BBM finally releases on that platform

Saw the headlines and I know they all do. The difference is for me, using Android devices and google search, they know a lot more than if I used an Apple for mobile and google search only on laptop or in-browser. Theoretically google can aggregate all the info from phone and search.
