hi a friend went to go get a contract on Vodacom for an iPhone 5. She was told that she would need a credit card to activate the iPhone. I have never heard of this and she does not have a credit card. She would also need like 5 months worth of bank statements but MTN is only like 3 so she applied for a BB z10 instead but anyone who has an Iphone on contract with Vodacome, had u had to activate with a credit card?

They are probably referring to the fact that you ordinarily need a card to have an iTunes account.

However this isn't true as you can create a Prepaid account as well.

Yeah, they mean an iTunes Store account. She can buy free apps no problem... If she wants paid apps, she should just ask her bank for a Visa or MasterCard debit card. Not the Visa Electron or Maestro cards.

okay thanks but Vodacom wouldnt help her o she has gone to MTN and gone for the BB Z10. The vodacom store said they only give iPhones to rich people

Because the phone is expensive, not everyone who applies for it will qualify for the package. Though this is a very rude way to explain that. When they credit vet you, they determine the amount of money they can trust you with.

The credit card thing is interesting. I have encountered some pretty rude and disinterested staff at cell phone shops, and am disappointing to hear what happened.
