iPhone screen repair HUGE price differences

I have smashed my iPhone 6 screen and been investigating repair places. Can anyone explain how WeFix (iFix) quotes R3 199,00 and Apple Doctor R1 450,00? I asked both places if this was a genuine Apple screen and they said Apple does not provide spare parts, only if phone is fixed under warranty. Is this different quality screens or a rip-off? I had an iPhone 4 screen fixed years ago at R2 000 (it was dreadful. Like a kids' 3D game). How can these prices vary so hugely? I am claiming from insurance. Advice please? :confused:
 
I know some people that have had their screens fixed (some generic stores, weFix and some other stores i shan't mention) but non from an iStore, and they all complained that it doesn't look the same as before or close to Retina screens. iStore charges enough to buy a new iPhone 5s (±R5000.00) but you get an original Apple screen.
 
We fix quoted me a hair under R1400 to repair my cracked screen. Plus there's a 10% if I do it in March.

They use generic parts YMMV
I had two batteries replaced both under 6 months with a warranty they don't honor if you open the phone
Their batteries are rubbish.
iPad mini screen was replaced for just under 2k and while not the original one would be hard pressed to tell the difference on non retina screens.
 
Wanting to replace my SOs iPhone 6 screen to hand over to the tween daughter (after school lifts etc. - safety, not just because!) - have a weFix close by...

Would rather spend R2-3k there, than double that at iStore, for something that will never be sold-on: Should be ok then? As long as it works!

Does anyone know if weFix sends screen repairs to a central workshop - or does each shop do their own? Since if it's the latter, then that would require me to do some more checking to see if the local store has a good reputation i.r.o. fixing/replacing the screens...

Look for an AppleDoctor store in your area. Cheaper and have warranty. Used them before and it takes 1 hour or so

Often use WeFix - iPhone 6 screen replacement is R1400 and they do the repairs on site.

FWIW a cheap PEP phone is safety, an iPhone6 is just because ;)

There is always the DIY option.

It's not really all that hard on the newer devices where the screen is actually the front as you would expect instead of requiring you to strip the whole phone like the 4/S etc.

Each shop does their own repairs, only takes 30minutes for them to change the screen.
 
Took it in to weFix, had it back that afternoon. No hassles, and quick in and out.

R1,4k with year warranty, and all appears to be working as expected - so quite happy.

Did you have any issues after the screen was replaced?
 
Thanks. The iStore doesn't repair iPhone 6. Only iPhone 6s & above.
I will investigate a DYI option.

Sounds like some bull**** to me.

Apple guarantees stock of parts for a number of years.

Apple maybe (do you know how long?), but not Core. And the iPhone 6 was released in 2014 with a different TouchID sensor to the 6s and above, so it's not like you can use a 6S part and put it in there. So that might make the difference (just spitballing here).
 
Need battery replaced on my 6S.

This seems like decent price?

Very good price. I got one replaced there nearly 2 years ago for abot R450 and it's still going well. Really worth it because a 6S is still a great little phone to use and a new battery really makes it feel new and snappy again.
