I was just wondering how Vodacom handles repairs for iPhone? The speaker on my iPhone stops working at random times during phone calls and the home button isn't fully functional. If I take it to Vodacom will they take it in for repairs or replace it?

You will have to book it in, they will send it away, make you wait about 2 weeks then tell you to collect it and you will then discover it has been declared "water damaged, beyond economical repair" and charge you for this.

Thanks for the warning. What if I took it to the Apple store?

Hey Hey

I was being very facetious there... it is just so Vodacom repair to take that route.

I suspect too that an Apple store will refer you straight to Vodacom... iPhones from Vodacom need to go back to Vodacom, or they used to until January this year.

Perhaps do some Googling and see if what you are experiencing is a known failure with your model iPhone, print these out and take it to Vodacom for their warranty process. Also perhaps PM Occie here on MyBB, he may be able to inform you about Vodacom and iPhone repair procedures better than an old cynic.. ie me.

Also, perhaps wait for some more replies here after the long weekend... you probably will get better advice once the forumites return to work, than from me.

Good luck.

Good day all.

The Iphones carry a one year warranty on the device. Normal repair processes remain in force for these devices, appart from the OBF process which does not apply to Iphones. Please book the unit in for repair at your closest Vodacom repair centre, or if there is not one close to you, a Vodacom Shop can also book it in for you and send it via courier to the closest repair centre. It will then most likely be sent to ARC in Midrand for assesment. If no water damage is found, then the unit will either be repaired or swopped out with a swop out unit @ no cost to the client.

A friend of mine sent his Iphone in for repair via me and he waited about 1 - 2 weeks IIRC. I however do not want to give exact time frames as it also depends where in the country you are. If you are in Koekenaap (yes, this is a actual place) and the phone needs to go to Midrand then obviously it will take longer. Once the phone is received @ ARC, they have 7 working days to finalise the repair. This turn around time excludes repairs that have been sent to 3rd parties for repair such as Leaf or Nokia's repair centre.

Hi,

I'm currently experiencing this repair issue. This is what I learnt. Vodacom does not repair IPHONE units a they are not allowed to physically open the phone. They can only reset it to factory settings like what we can do ourselves at home. Therefore their policy for anything that is suspected to be hardware will be swapped out and not repaired.

My IPHONE bombed out on my last week (it was only 2 months old), sent it in 3 times. Vodacom first did a downgrade (don't know how they got that right) then a upgrade. Only to tell me that they cannot replicate the fault (flickering screen) that I first booked it in for, therefore stating that they don't have enough reason to swap out my unit. I actually called Apple US to ask for their expertise (seeing that Vodacom doesn't have one), they stated that this is probably a battery connection fault and that the battery needs to be replaced else my phone is going downhill from here. Even after making this known to Vodacom they still did nothing.

Big disappointment for me, as Vodacom made such a big hoohaa about they are the only SP to have IPHONE when they don't have the support to go with it. Is this not violating the CPA rules?
