hey guys my mom has told me I can take her upgrade on her talk 1000 contract. ive decided to either get an iphone 3gs 32 gig or wait for the google nexus one. i like the iphones gaming capabilities and large app store but is soon to be replaced and apart from that the nexus one is technically a better phone. What do you guys think?

Nexus One. Even Tech podcast host Leo Laporte of Twit.tv who has always been an iPhone guy says the N1 blows the iPhone out the water.

The one area that is often quoted for the iPhone is the size of the app store, however studies have shown that after += 3000 it makes no difference how many apps there are because from the 2000th most popular app onwards practically no one actually has them installed - they are irrelevant. What does matter is the range of apps and the iPhone falls behind there because of the hardware and policy restrictions: no multi-tasking so no background apps (and there are some really great apps in this category), Android is ahead in terms of barcode scanning and shopping and augmented reality since Android phones have had auto focus and a compass from the beginning.

Add to that the N1 speech to text recognition, Google Goggles, blazing fast processor, and open platform and the N1 is a clear winner. Even Apple founder Steve Wozniak says the N1 is his favorite gadget!

I don't know when the N1 will be available here though. I'm getting mine from the US

+1000000000

wanna get the N1 soon! maybe gonna get it off ebay! :)

thanks man, i also just thought about the hd2, but i dont know if ill be able to wait for the n1

Why not get it from the US? it's cheaper and you can get it now. And you'll get updates as they ship. With local versions we have to wait ages for updates.

Either you can get someone in the US or UK to order it for you (which is what I'm doing) or you can use a service like myUs.com. There's a discussion on how to do it here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?210145-Google-Nexus-One-launched

I also like the nexus one but apple will probably release a big update for the iphone this June too, as they always do.

always something nice around the corner . . .

except that if even the iPad doesn't do Flash, multitasking etc, then it's doubtful that the new iPhone will either. Competition is close enough now that it's becoming less and less worth it to put up with Apples closed platform and arbitrary restrictions.

What's nicer around the corner is probably the next Android phone. There are already pics of the new HTC Incredible leaked: http://blogs.zdnet.com/gadgetreviews/?p=12160

If you're always waiting for what's around the corner, you'll be waiting forever!

For gizmo-phreaks like us the Nexus One is all-round a better prospect, I think. Much more flexible. Unless you want an appliance / fashion accessory.
But my first choice is the HD2. Still the uberphone.

ive decided im getting the nexus one, any idea of release date in sa

Lol I've been longing for my nexus one...
Sigh, yesterday I finally heard that it arrived in SA, but no sign of what happening, so then I phoned SAPO, they told me it in the customs, they will send it once it is released... It'll take 3 to 5 to be delivered...sigh,another looooong wait...

Oh ya, I would suggest the Xperia X10, I saw on this months vodacom mag, it shows that it coming soon, it a nice phone with a 4" touch screen. It awesome, should check it out...
